I don't know, other than Ford, who was the "big name" of the time in that movie?

Carrie and Mark were doing nothing, more or less. Driver and Gleeson were marginal names at best at the time - good actors but not marquee names. And Sydow worked one day.

Who else was in this?

Seems like TPM had bigger names -- Neeson, McGregor, and SLJ... even Portman (not a big name but I was well aware of her at the time)
Yes, but TFA also had about 16 years of inflation to help inflate its budget vs. TPM. And as it was the first $2.0B grossing film since Avatar, I'm guessing Disney sees it as money well spent, regardless of how some of us view it now..

Fair but I think combined Ford,
Fisher, Hamill, Daniels, Mayhew would have done ok? But yes most of the other actors were fairly marginal Driver’s main credit was Girls, Oscar Issac had just done Ex Machina, Lupita Nyong’o had not done a lot.
Was Andy Serkis the biggest name lol?

I talk a of rubbish out of my a$$ at times:)

I going with:

This film will be canceled.

You'd think that after the time and "effort" and all the reshoots, all the sunk costs that absolutely will not be made back, they'd..

...Double down. Right?

I don't think so, this time. I don't believe this will ever see the light of day.

Streamer Event.

Translation: small, short theatrical opening that basically whets appetite for the Streamer Event. Like Joker 2.
Idk. An appetite for a streamer event? For this?

This would be a recipe for embarrassment, no?

Are MCU fans that dedicated?

Nah, they can’t do that now without it looking really bad. It’s one thing to cancel a project never filmed or had a trailer released but this has marketing material in theaters, toys on the way, and is just too visible to quietly cancel.

Who's buying these "toys on the way"? More importantly, who's stupid enough to produce them? Hasbro? Lord that'd be a stinker.

You see where I'm getting at here.

Outright canceling it isn't really an option at this point. They're just going to have another expensive stinker to add to their ever-growing list.

And they're going to try to merchandise the hell out of it to try to make money off it in some way and we're going to see ford hulk and falcon america figs clogging up toy shelves for months.

Marvel Legends collectors will not recover that amount of red on the books.

Do folks still even collect those ML'S *****?

I can't imagine merch for this film would/will have any semblance notable sales. Red Hulk, I guess?

Eh..

Some are real MCU fans with thick skin. They have and continue to love it all. Thankfully they're a minority. Good Lord.

The editing on the trailer was unique, that split screen something you don't usually see. I like the overall "ticking" theme that was going on, building the suspense, definitely hinting that something else is going on.

The trailer makes it look like Ross turning into Red Hulk was not his choice. Like someone injects him with something at that press briefing. Probably Big Bad is trying to turn the US President into a scapegoat, and you have the classic comic book trope of "misunderstanding leads to fight, leads to team-up to take on the real bad guy." Probably makes more sense to have Ross turn into a Hulk against his will. With him struggling to accept he's turned into his worst enemy. Though it seems like Ross has sort of gotten over his "Hulk obsession" in the recent movies.

Not quite sure where Valentina, Everett Ross, and the Thunderbolts fit into everything, but I can see some pieces being put into place. I thought Valentina may be the big bad. Maybe she is, and the Thunderbolts realize they're working for the Big Bad halfway through their movie. Either way, it looks like this phase might be starting to come together.

The Age... of the Superhero... is over.
