Now that I think about it, JL reviews weren’t as bad as those for BvS. Not that it necessarily deserved it, but It seemed some critical goodwill carried over from Wonder Woman’s release in the summer. BvS probably was the last one to get panned from the start.
Yeah, it did score 13% higher on Rotten Tomatoes. Markedly higher than Batman v Superman, but 40% is still not good.
Strangely it seemed like WB had taken steps to win some good will from people and the media-inviting the press to behind the scenes stuff, and releasing all of their DC movies’ Comic Con trailers that year to the general public. And like you said, they got some momentum going in, from “Wonder Woman’s” box off numbers and critical reception. But then Warner Bros seemed to undermine all of that good will by rushing Justice League out in a chopped up and pieced back together form.
Regarding the “Captain Marvel” reviews, I’ll probably just wait to see for myself. I don’t really trust the Disney Rotten Tomotoes scores any more. And it’s not that I don’t think the Marvel movies are good. I think a lot of them are great. But the almost exclusively glowing reviews for every movie where they’re fawning over everything they do is a little much.
