Hate to disagree with you but to me their figures are much better then when they first started. And yes they are more expensive, but can you tell me what items haven't increased in price in the past 10 years? Bread was 75 cents a loaf ten years ago..now it's closer to a dollar. But if you want to wait 10 years for Hot Toys to make one go right ahead...I don't think that Hot Toys prices ever go up.
The price of everything does go up over time but I remember picking Jedi Luke up for £35, if they produced a newer version of him it'd be almost the same figure, same standard of paint, same standard of outfit but would cost at the very least least double maybe even triple the price & that ain't value for money, at least HT have really stepped their game up in the last few years.
You say that sideshows figures have improved along the way & I kinda agree but there hasn't been a huge leap in quality considering the step in prices, I really wanted the stormie Luke & Han set, the proto's looked beyond brilliant but the final products were horrid & everyone else seemed to think the same, somehow sideshows figure rarely match up to the early promise the proto pic's show & compared to HT (who they have a partnership with) that's poor.
HT may be pricier to start with but I know what I'm getting from the word go & over the last couple of years haven't been dissapointed when the production pieces are finally shown.
I know all the above makes me sound like a HT fanboy but I'm not, I have way more SS in my collection than anything else & i'm waiting for a new release that i feel is worth the money, Sideshow hold the license to produce characters from my favorite film series - I just don't think they are doing it enough justice for the prices they charge (although EB & Medi seem to be able to do even less justice for more money with their U/U Luke !!).
I'm not gonna hold my breath for HT to produce star wars characters - yet ! But seeing as I don't buy ( or cant afford ) that many figures nowadays all i'm saying is I need to be more careful about what i buy & with so many potentially great figures lined up for 2011 i'd rather save my £'s for something that really makes me go "wow" when I look at it & also make me happy i spent hard earned money on it.
If the production figure of Rex looks good I'll be the first to say I was wrong, at the minute though I just see Rex ending up a bit like the "duke" figure with ____ty paint apps, etc.
