The spinning top at the end is almost proof that you can indeed have different interpretations. It spins, then begins to die, then spins again. Excellent ending. However I saw the movie the exact same way Deckard explained it. Its one of those rare times I got it the first time viewing it 
I just wanted to add that it takes an excellent director to really bring out those performances. Everyone was perfect for their respective roles. I was especially impressed with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Ellen Page. Excellent young actors.

No it does matter, its just not what alot of people would like. Personally I think its brilliant, he still gets to be happy, and if he doesn't know it makes it real.

Its all right there. I really do believe after people start to see this a 2nd, 3rd etc time, they will understand it more. I dont even know how many times I had to watch 2001 or the Shining to get a firmer grasp on everything going on.

Imo he's still in Limbo along with Saito at the end because they were the only two not to escape the sunken van. The spinning top is the icing on the cake.
Still this is just and only my opinion. I am not saying that if you don't see it this way you "don't get it" Its definitely one of those movies that were purposely left open for interpretation.

Why does it matter if it stopped or not, with your interpretation?
Also did you answer what happened towards the end between Saito, Cobb and the gun? And what happened after that? How did he get from there to the plane?

he got to the plane by building it from memory, something he tells Ellen Page not to do, but Arthur says"notice how hes always doing things he tells you not to." Hes an architect too, Cobb. He builds his friends, his house, his children from memories. Thats why they are dressed the same way as they were in the dreams and flashbacks.
It matters because Mal locked her totum away, and thats how she forgot the dream world wasn't real, its why she killed herself. Cobb had to get the totum from her safe and spin it, to show her it was still spinning and they were dreaming all that time and he wanted to wake up. It went on for so long in the dream tho she couldn't handle reality. The important differance is that if Ariadne stopped it for him, he can also over time forget hes in this new limbo he built and it will become real to him. On a serious note I can't believe what an amazing actor Leo's become (2002ish - present) He and Depp are my favorites right now.
People hate Shutter Island with a passion...I have no idea why.
Anyway, I agree with the last part...but not Depp. He hasnt made anything worth a damn since POTC. He needs to get away from Burton. It's draggin him down.
That's actually another clue that it's a dream. It was explained multiple times in the film that you can just wind up in a certain place in the middle of an event, place or conversation. The explanation for how he got to the plane is irrelevant... because he was still dreaming.
Also, he wound up onshore and couldn't even remember why he was supposed to see Saito. Another piece of evidence that he was stuck in limbo until he "woke up" into the final dream at the end.

Sure, it's left open for interpretation and debate. But the signs and clues that
the end is a dream
I think maybe those who wanted
the 100% happy ending might be looking a bit too far down that road.

Really glad Gordon-Levitt got it though, he rocked and is coming a long way from 3rd Rock. He'd be my vote for a new Joker.
