Re: Classic Comedians - Laurel & Hardy, Marx Brothers, Stooges, Hope/Crosby, Martin/L

Yes the old thread will be resurrected! I have some plans in my head for McDougal's House of Horrors. I just have to find a painter once the jackets are done so I can get the heads painted.

If my seamstress does well with Bud and Lou, I plan on using her for Stan and Ollie's street clothes. I tried sewing their shirts but ran into problems with the collars.

WaaHoo! And away we go...!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Here are some new photos of Bud and Lou in "Buck Privates"...

Happy Thanksgiving, Jerry!

We took a trip to Santa Fe for the holiday and are about to leave for dinner and we are eating in a native American restaurant for a hopefully authentic Thanksgiving dinner.

Bud and Lou are still looking great. In the second set of pictures is Bud grilling Lou about marrying a ten year old girl?

Hi Jim,

Sounds like you had a great Thanksgiving! Seems like you've truly left the cold of the Northeast and adapted extremely well to the SW part of the country. Some beautiful places where you are at, and best of all, no snow!

No complaints though, because we had a great Thanksgiving as well. We went out to eat, and I don't think I can eat anymore..:)

I put Bud and Lou in some different settings (as you can see above) and so I thought I'd dust off this old thread. Yeah, as Bud and Lou surmised, age differences decrease the older you get!

When you get a chance, post up if you've made any progress on your figures. Last I remember, you had found a seamstress, right? Anyway, great to hear from you...

Re: Classic Comedians - Laurel & Hardy, Marx Brothers, Stooges, Hope/Crosby, Martin/L

Slicker Smith: You're 40 years-old and you're in love with this little girl that's 10 years-old. You're four times as old as that girl and you couldn't marry her, could you?
Herbie Brown: Not unless I come from the mountains.
Slicker Smith: All right- you're 40 years-old, you're four times as old as this girl, and you can't marry her, so you wait five years. By that time the little girl's 15 and you're 45. You're only three times as old as that little girl. So you wait 15 years and when the girl is 30, you're at 60. You're only twice as old as that little girl.
Herbie Brown: She's catching up.
Slicker Smith: Yes, yes. Now here's the question. How long do you have to wait until you and that little girl are the same age?
Herbie Brown: Now what kinda question is that? That's ridiculous!
Slicker Smith: Ridiculous or not, answer the question.
Herbie Brown: If I wait for that girl she'll pass me up. She'll wind up older than I am.
Slicker Smith: What are you talking about?
Herbie Brown: She'll have to wait for me!
Slicker Smith: Why should she wait for you?
Herbie Brown: ...I was nice enough to wait for her!

And here is that particular scene (without the washbasin :))

Re: Classic Comedians - Laurel & Hardy, Marx Brothers, Stooges, Hope/Crosby, Martin/L

I just love your set up!

The seamstress I hired was a total disaster and ended up holding my figures hostage and I had to pay her a good chunk of change to get them back and none of her work was any use to me but I may have a new person lined up.

We shall see...

Anyway we had a good road trip and have finally returned home. Wow was that one long drive... Anything for me is a long drive... Having moved from NYC, all we used to do was ride the subways.

On the way home I just had to stop and take a shot of this for you...

Oh my gosh, how funny!! So, does that mean that my namesake (before he passed unto the big prairie in the sky) opened up a gift shop:rotfl?

Sounds like you had a great Thanksgiving weekend (and there is still one more day)...welcome home!

Re: Classic Comedians - Laurel & Hardy, Marx Brothers, Stooges, Hope/Crosby, Martin/L

I never did receive my replacement hat for Chaplin. I guess that my cross-country move may have had something to do with it.

I decided to take matters into my own hands and I sanded down the original hat's brim which was way too large. After sanding I repainted it.
Here is the result...

Before...

After...

While not perfect, I think it looks way better.

Re: Classic Comedians - Laurel & Hardy, Marx Brothers, Stooges, Hope/Crosby, Martin/L

Well, I think it looks great! It is much better than the replacement that they sent. If you go back and look at one of the pics I posted, i think you will agree.

By the way, I think the Chaplin figures that we bought are the best that are out there. Another Chaplin figure came out using Rainman's sculpt, which I don't really think captures him.

Re: Classic Comedians - Laurel & Hardy, Marx Brothers, Stooges, Hope/Crosby, Martin/L

I have to agree with you about the new chaplin figure as far as the sculpt goes but I think the clothes on the newer figure are much better from what I've seen in photos.

Anyway, I'm much happier with him now that I fixed his derby.

I couldn't find the photo you mentioned... this thread has gotten very long which is great but things here are getting kind of hard to find.

Re: Classic Comedians - Laurel & Hardy, Marx Brothers, Stooges, Hope/Crosby, Martin/L

I found it..I will give you one guess as to which one is the replacement...it's better yours got lost in the mail..

Maybe the vest and shoes are better. They can't even get the wig tipped shirt right, can you believe it? And the sculpt itself, well, enough said...

Re: Classic Comedians - Laurel & Hardy, Marx Brothers, Stooges, Hope/Crosby, Martin/L

I can see which one it is... The one on the left which has no character.

Spencer's Oliver Hardy derby is the best fit. I've never seen a 1/6 derby that is anywhere near that quality.

Re: Classic Comedians - Laurel & Hardy, Marx Brothers, Stooges, Hope/Crosby, Martin/L

I've yet to see a quality wing tipped shirt in 1/6 scale and I've been looking.

Re: Classic Comedians - Laurel & Hardy, Marx Brothers, Stooges, Hope/Crosby, Martin/L

Yeah, I agree, Spenser really came through. I'm thinking on asking him if he would consider finishing Barney Fife. He would make a great figure...

Hey Jerry...

Have you ever seen a film called "Murder He Says" with Fred Mac Murray?

I was just remembering how funny it was, you can't get it on DVD but some copies on VHS can be found. It also turns up on TCM once in a blue moon. If you can find a copy I think you would really enjoy it. One of my favorite comedies and kind of a forgotten film.

Here is a short clip I found on Youtube.

Hi Jim,

No, I hadn't heard of that movie but it looks like one that I would want to watch! That scene with the feet kinda reminded me of Tim Conway's "short man" thing where he did shtick with his legs.

Btw, do a search on "watch TCM". There is an app (if you have an ipad) or website that allows you to stream TCM movies (there are many to choose from) as you wish. I looked for "Murder He Says" but it wasn't there. They have some pretty obscure ones on there though, so take a look..

Re: Classic Comedians - Laurel & Hardy, Marx Brothers, Stooges, Hope/Crosby, Martin/L

Hey Jerry, that was a great find. I plan on checking it out tonight.

Thanks.

I hope you are able to track down a copy of "Murder He Says" it is well worth the search. I wish they would release it on DVD. It would be one of the few films they should remake since few people have ever heard of it. I think it would be a good vehicle for Will Ferrell.
