Re: Classic Comedians Thread - starting with Mr. Laurel and Mr. Hardy

Okay, Jerry...

I will call you old fashioned, and from where I sit that is a very good thing to be.

I agree with everything you said. I started watching "Two and a Half Men" right after Sheen had his melt down and I was shocked by how dirty TV has gotten. I don't get offended but I really was surprised by what prime time television has become.

There are really not too many family friendly shows on any more. I wish for a more innocent time when shows like "Mr. Ed", "Leave it to Beaver" and "Dobie Gillis" were on. Funny shows, absurd shows, but always entertaining.

At least we have reruns.

Re: Classic Comedians Thread - starting with Mr. Laurel and Mr. Hardy

Clouseau looks great! Thanks for giving us a peek...

Have you any idea of who did the head sculpt and paint?

No not sure might be alex lopez a fellow board member but I might be wrong, I know he made the columbo head sculpt.

I can ask around;)

Re: Classic Comedians Thread - starting with Mr. Laurel and Mr. Hardy

Sparks...

I don't think he did the Sellers head sculpt but he did do a great Abbott and Costello.

The hats were made by me and are removable.

I love those hats by the way...!!

Ada Chan offers a Sellers sculpt on her website...not quite sure if it's the same one that Sparks posted:

Re: Classic Comedians Thread - starting with Mr. Laurel and Mr. Hardy

That's it!

You're right Jerry it is Ada's sculpt. Now I know where to go if I decide to get him down the road. I still have Mr Laurel and Mr. Hardy to work on when they arrive, and more work on Bud and Lou.

I'd like to complete those four first before I start on another custom.

Re: Classic Comedians Thread - starting with Mr. Laurel and Mr. Hardy

By the way, for those Abbott and Costello fans out there, check out the thread that Jungle Jom started several years ago featuring Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein!

I recommend you read it from the start, all the way through...jungle is too modest to promote it, but I will! What a great film, and it's fun to see the step by step recreation take place...

Here is the thread:

Bud and Lou are always welcome here!

Really nice stuff Jerry!

Great to see the Marx Brothers together again.

The costumes are spot on. The head sculpts for Chico and Harpo are probably place holders, am I right? I bet you will eventually find more accurate heads over time. Fantastic accessories. What a great collection of the classic clowns you've started. I can't wait to see all of them together once you get your Chaplin.

It sure has been a long wait for The Little Tramp. I hope he ships soon. They still have yet to show the final product so I know he is still a while away.

On the L&H front... Spencer said he will be shipping my heads by the end of the week, which means I will probably get them by the end of next week. I'm really excited to see them in person. Pictures never seem to do these little heads justice. You've got to see them in hand.

I just love this thread.

Re: Classic Comedians Thread - starting with Mr. Laurel and Mr. Hardy

Hey Jim...

Thanks. Yep, you are right on Chico and Harpo. I think Chico is closer to resemblance than Harpo...if you see any heads that offer closer resemblances let me know...

I am glad your Stan and Ollie heads are finally going to be in your hands! If you ordered the painted versions, you will not be disappointed. Spenser did such a fine job with my painted set that I haven't yet tackled painting my other unpainted set. It will be challenging for me to get them even close to his...but I like challenges :slap

Post pictures when you get them..!

Regarding Charlie, I have emailed and inquired what the anticipated new release date will be. I haven't heard anything yet, but if I do I will post it. Let me know if you hear anything on your end...

Re: Classic Comedians Thread - starting with Mr. Laurel and Mr. Hardy

I'll keep a look out for better Chico and Harpo heads.

... and yes I did order the painted set of Stanley and Oliver, I have no paint skills whatsoever. It's been hard enough to get Bud and Lou painted. The really good artists are all so busy.

Re: Classic Comedians Thread - starting with Mr. Laurel and Mr. Hardy

I've been thinking about the clothes for Laurel and Hardy. I'm mainly trying to decide on the ties. I'm going to go for polka dot ties but haven't decided on the colors yet. I'm also trying to decide Ollie's suit color either black or dark blue. Stan of course will be wearing Henry Jones Sr.'s suit.

I came across this video of L&H impersonators which shows a lot of options for costumes.

Take a look:

I'd also love to get a 1/6 version of the car at the end of the video.

Re: Classic Comedians Thread - starting with Mr. Laurel and Mr. Hardy

I wasn't really looking for overalls...

but I think you've talked me into it. Seven dollars and fifty cents is just too good to pass up. I could easily make a crate for the piano out of balsa wood which would be great to display them with.

I also could mix and match Abbott and Costello delivering the piano and Laurel and Hardy delivering Dracula and the Monster. Now that will be fun to see!

Re: Classic Comedians Thread - starting with Mr. Laurel and Mr. Hardy

I never thought of the piano, but you are So right...that would make a great display! And that short won an Academy Award didn't it? The Music Box...

And it would be a lot of fun to see Abbott and Costello and Laurel and Hardy delivering their crates! You certainly are handy with the balsa wood...

Re: Classic Comedians Thread - starting with Mr. Laurel and Mr. Hardy

Yep, they won the Oscar for best short subject with "The Music Box".

I love to work with Balsa Wood. It's a lot of fun. I don't get much joy out of sewing costumes but it is a necessary evil.

The first thing I made with Balsa was the Bridge from "Star Trek" the original series for the small Playmates figures. Unfortunately it's packed away and I have no pics of it. After that I was hooked on working with the stuff.

Re: Classic Comedians Thread - starting with Mr. Laurel and Mr. Hardy

Hey, if you go the "Music Box" route it will certainly save you money on clothes...either that or cost you more because you will end up buying another set of heads like me :wave

Re: Classic Comedians Thread - starting with Mr. Laurel and Mr. Hardy

I'll just stick to one set and change out the clothes when the mood strikes me. I guess, I'm just a cheapskate.
