Gday all,

I am turning to my fellow freaks for assistance
I have been offered a job transfer to our Cleveland Ohio office .

I am an Australian , currently living in Brisbane QLD ( australia )
I have lived in Toronto Canada for 5 years and Dallas fortworth for 3 years . And have been back in OZ for 3 years

I know nothing about Cleveland , and would be moving there with my wife and three Daughters all aged under 5 ..

Is it a family city ? is it safe ? what are some of the family neighbourhoods I should look at ?
Any and all usefull info would be appreciated

Thanks Guys / gals for your help

CB

I wouldn't live there. But that's just me. Been there once for work and I remember traffic being horrible. I believe it gets lots of snow too, and I don't much like snow. then again, if the pay was right, I might give it a shot.

much of my family lives in nearby suburbs. the down town area itself seems pretty run down, but they are trying to rejuvenate with the new museums and sports arenas.

its a better city now than it was 10-20 years ago, but not what it was in the 60s and 70s i guess.

current claims to fame is its the home of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and LeBron James. I like their zoo personally.

thanks Guys ,
I appreciate the info guys ,
I know nothing about it . and must admit that searchign via the net only realy provides majority of negative information !! .

So its great to hear from those who have experienced it :)

Cleveland gets a bad rap most of the time. I think it would be a big difference than Australia, but it's not all bad. I would live in a suburb though. I have relatives in North Olmstead.

You find alot of negativity about Cleveland because years ago it was always the butt of comedian's jokes, just like alot of the midwest.

It does get ALOT of snow and cold, but if you've lived in Toronto, you'd know about that.

What kind of job do you have that you make so many major moves?

Ohio is mundane............................................
Well, it's average. Split about half and half in terms of political affiliation, right in the middle in a lot of the national statistics, just average. You would prefer to be Louisiana or Mississippi? More corrupt, poorer, dumber, but more interesting?

Most of my family lives in the Cleveland area and honestly I would not want to move their. The downtown is especially depressing and run-down... each time I return to visit more businesses are closed and there is less to do. For instance in the late 90's I used to go to an area of Cleveland full of music venues, restaurants and bars; I went back two years ago and everything was closed :monkey2

The suburbs are still pretty nice (depending where you are) but I can't say I would make a move across the world.

On the plus side they do have wonderful museums, zoos and other public areas... just not sure if the city will be able to turn around.

Wait, so is Australia worse to live in than Cleveland?

Just don't go near the water I guess! :lol

My brother lived outside of Perth in Australia and though he liked it, he hated the big ants and all the clay around his house.

I guess anywhere you live you have things you like and things you hate.

Thanks again all

"the Ween" I am in freight forwarding / Logistics ..boring stuff but I get about :)
I dont mind the snow . I dont mind any bugs or creepy crawlies .. Australia has certainly cured me of any fear with spiders snakes and sharks to name a few locals :)

I just wanted to know if it was a good place to raise a young family ?
I have heard some rather negative things about the crime there . which is a concern .

" Valfar " I didnt really want to . I loved T.O and its one of my favourite cities . and actually would move back in a flash
I lived out at Milton ( know it? )
but the trasnfer down to Dallas Texas came up so I had to take that and see what the big D was all about :)

Crime is always going to get worse the closer you get to a big city. That's why I would move to a suburb. If you were moving to Detroit, I'd say.....NOOOOOOOOOO!! :lol I'm not sure how crime in Cleveland would add up to, say, Dallas. Would it be possible for you to come over and check things out BEFORE making the big move? You made some major moves. I hope they help you with that or pay you very well. I'm at work now, but I would gladly look some things up for you once I get home.
