Hey all - getting ready to get out of the Hasbro SW collecting business, something I've done since the modern line was introduced in 1995.Finding it hard, yet very satisfying at same time. Turned 40 this last year and while I don't look it or act it, the time feels 'right.' Part of me is concerned I won't be strong enough to just walk away......LOL, SW = my crack

Anyone just up and donated whole collections?

Toys for Tots.

I'm pretty sure they only take new stuff.

Sorry, didn't see where he said his collection was all opened and used figures. When I stopped collecting Toy Biz Marvel the ones i couldn't sell I donated to a Toys for kid thing my job was sponsoring. I just used Toy for Tots as an example.

Sold mine. Pretty much all of it. It was pointless for me to continue.

You're done when it is no longer fun.

Low end toys, donate.

High end toys, ebay.

:exactly: I use to sell at Frank and Sons and people bought the more rare and popular ones, the ones no one wanted I gave to the local Toy drive. Had someone make a remake that I was giving away stuff I didn't want and I told them, 'I paid for these with my own money, didn't get them for free'. Shut them up.

Didn't donate, but yes, I sold my entire Hasbro SW collection to a comic shop about seven or eight years ago. (Though considering the ridiculously tiny amount of money I got for it, it's was practically a donation! :lol)

I had an entire mini-van packed as tightly as possible (after taking out all the rear seats). Ended up getting something like $700 bucks. I don't know how many thousands all that stuff cost new. I didn't have the heart to total it up. :monkey4

But ultimately it felt FANTASTIC. Very freeing. Liberating. I recommend it. :lecture

I wish I could stop. It's driven me to the poorhouse and I just can't walk away. I wish I had some willpower. There needs to be a Star Wars Anonymous club.

If you really feel this way, just sell them all on ebay for whatever they go for and never look back. It hurts for a few months, but it was the best decision Ive ever made (I was in the same boat).

I sold Red Cards and green Cards, 12" Hasbro and still have a whole collection of the stuff, lol. Ended up lending my son money over 10 years ago and keep his collection as collator. To much work to sell it and I hate selling on eBay.

I never got that far. I did look at everything I collected one day and thought to myself "why". I couldn't answer the why. Then I looked at how much I spent and said to myself damn that's a down payment on a house. So I sold it all and got a house. :yess:

Thats how it kinda feels......and yeah, the collections all carded.....my friends think I am nuts, but they are just not getting it - collection takes over after awhile

Thanks for the responses, everyone!

plus one on the toys for tots idea. I gave almost all of my carded figures about 4 years ago been donating yearly since.

This year I hope to move past the donating and into coordinating for toy drives.

:clap Most children are just happy to receive a toy, they don't care if it's rare or valuable. My 4 year old grandson got some wried alien Green Lantern I've never seen and he love it. Said, "Look he has baby legs", and started busting up.

enough is enough when you are six feet under. It is both an investment and hobby.
