You may be surprised how much you can get for some of the more recent figures (SAGA 2 through new Vintage collection). I didn't have a large Hasbro SW collection, but selling them loose and allowing international bidders really made some of my auctions end high. The Ewoks, Cantina aliens, and Jabba's Palace denizens were the hottest sellers. It took a lot of time to take pictures, list them all, and pack them up for shipping, but it was worth all the money in the end. The cheaper POTF2 and SAGA figures should probably just be donated or dropped off at your local thrift store. They won't be worth your time listing them on eBay.

One thing to try for the old Hasbro figures is to purchase a table at a local collectibles show and sell it all there. Remember that all Hasbro figures are pretty much worthless now so just sell them for like $2 a piece and be done with it.

Once your collection becomes a sore point rather than something you get real joy out of reviewing - you are done, sell em' for whatever you can get, donate em' or give em' to younger realtives who would enjoy having them. Then figure out what to do with all the shelving, cases and space you have freed up. :)

star wars toys are worthless now after all the re issues the last few years

I am the same with my Transformers collection. I was still getting them in the mail and didn't even care to open them. I have begun selling off everything but 4 figures. I didn't realize how huge it was. I'm a good month into it and still have tons to move. It has allowed me to almost clear all my debt. Which is a nice gift to give my family. It has also allowed me to buy the Batman HT figures I want/missed...which is a nice gift to give to myself.

Collecting is truly a habit like a drug. I've been collecting since I was 12 years old and today I'm a few months away from 36. I just can't see myself just hand off my collection. The good thing is I haven't let it get me into debt, but the addiction is there. I know it and feel it in my soul.

I couldn't imagine going into debt over a hobby...I actually couldn't imagine even spending out of my family's bank account. I stay afloat in collecting by buying and selling. Getting things at a good price, enjoying them and then selling to try and break even and buy whatever I have decied my collection is moving towards, that month LOL.

enough is enough when you are six feet under. It is both an investment and hobby.

:goodpost:
Can't take em with ya.

One thing to remember is that toys aren't going away anytime soon, and neither will collecting. It's challenging to weigh the pros and cons to collecting for myself, but at the end of the day it's gotta make me feel good. It's what it's all about.

When I'm in my hobby room I'm in a trance of appreciation, when I no longer appreciate what I have it's time to move on and to find something that I will.

If you have metal transformers, keep those.

Well, I decided on taking 'baby steps' so out of my existing 14 boxes of carded stuff, I am donating 9 of em so that's a good start. kept some original trilogy centric stuff...

I collected hundreds of Hasbro figures over the years. About six years ago I stopped and sold off all but a few of my favorites. I have absolutely no regrets.

Cool yeah, it feels good letting go of many. Even though not all, as I decided to keep those that also had kenner vintage counterparts.....it feels good - and at this point, I pick up the extremely rare figure, all OTC related.

I completely agree. I was out of work for 10 months and sold off a ton of stuff and to be honest I really only kind of miss 2-3 things. I have a job now and have continued collecting some stuff but not nearly as much as before and right now I think having less means more to me than having more.

I saved the first series of orange carded PotF figures (they really started me collecting again), the McQuarrie series, and a few select figures here and there.

It is cathartic to go from tons of figures that were packed away in storage that I never looked at, down to just a few...that I still have packed away and never look at. :lol

Well with premium format prices going up and up I know my time as a Sideshow collector will be coming to an end eventually.

I had originally kept many of the orange carded wave from 95, but in the end, kept a Death Star Gunner as the only one. Decided to go with the 'best' sculpts or closest representation to the original movies. I have one Stormtrooper figure in the entire collection now

And I totally agree with the sentiment, 'less is more'
