It is cathartic to go from tons of figures that were packed away in storage that I never looked at, down to just a few...that I still have packed away and never look at. :lol

That's funny, I sold off about 12 pieces recently to "trim down" my collection and immediately bought 7 clones :slap

What can you do :cuckoo:

Enough was enough for me a few years ago. I sold off the vast majority of my collection and never really looked back. I may sell of the little bit I have left, but haven't decided.

I don't really miss any of it either.

You're done when it is no longer fun.

Been reading this thread and hadn't posted. However, I think this best approaches how I look at collecting. When I'm no longer having fun that's when I'll hang up my hat. If I ever hang my hat up I hope I don't become one of those excollectors that comes around and tells people how they're wasting money. I've seen that many times over the years from people who stick around. Its great you feel that way but I couldn't care less as I'm having a great time.

Me personally I felt I wasted a ton of money on collecting. Very happy to have stopped. That said I would never tell anyone they are wasting their money on collecting. It's not my money and I couldn't care less what people do with their loot. :duff

I KNOW I wasted money. All the stuff I bought and later sold. Some at a profit, but most at a loss. I never bought hoping to make money, but wasn't pleased at the amount I lost on some of it. Wish I had every cent I spent on this stuff. I enjoyed it a lot at the time, but in the end it was just "stuff" until I bought the next "stuff" and sold once I got tired of looking at it. The real final straw when I realized I had stuff all over the house.

I still have fun with this hobby but sometimes I do feel like I am wasting all this money on stuff,

If I didn't "waste" money on this I would just "waste" it on something else. Its disposable income, so I dispose of it.

Me too. I enjoy collecting the items that have a connection to my interests. I see so many people in the forums buying items just for the sake of having the latest and greatest, or in some cases just for resale so I understand how a lot of guys get burned out fast.

I'm good with using old purchases to finance new ones... keeps the collection fresh and under control.

Very true... might as well enjoy some of the money we make :lol

I have been thinning down my low end stuff quite a bit lately. I sold large lots of figures for pennies a figure just to get rid of them. I donated a large amount of my modern Star Wars stuff. In the last year I've gotten rid of 50% of all my low end with another 35-40% to go.

I'll tell you guys something. After a year of dumping all those toys I don't miss a single one. I'm a lot happier to have cleared out some space.

I'm sort of shifting my collecting once again this year to more 1/6 customs, prop replicas and my new joy :Retro video games. I'm still having fun so I will keep at it.

I agree 100% when the hobby stops being enjoyable it's time to stop.

This is all I do now. I have a finite amount of money I'll ever spend locked up in 1/6, 1/4, prop replicas, and prints. If something new comes out that blows me away, I'll scramble to sell my least favorite pieces in time for pre-order. Only way I've found to control my spending and does wonders for space issues.
