Re: Collection Stash: Open Beta
Do you need to ask brother !!!
Haha, I forgot you were into that!
So I posted on Twitter my idea but I want to open it up to a discussion cause I only want to go down this road if it will be useful.
Most variants we have dealt with right now have been "true" variants. I say true because they are variants that the manufacturers created on purpose, whether that is an exclusive version or a version with different paint or whatever.
Now that I am starting to get into Hasbro/Kenner, it is introducing a new set of challenges with all of the manufacturer error variants.
While these are "true" variants, in the collecting world they have been deemed as variants are can be very important to collectors.
Theoretically, the site supports variants now but the current version of variants are for the major variants. I am proposing adding some new enhancements so we can have different variant types, such as packaging or manufacturer error.
The idea would be, when adding a variant, you would be prompted to specify what type, for instance the Hasbro Power of the Force 2 Obi Wan has multiple different variants that are package based or manufacturer error, like the long vs short lightsaber.
If it is a variant like that, you would select the appropriate type, such as "Manufacturer Error". Instead of going through the whole add collectible variant process, you would just be prompted to add a variant sub title like: ".01 full figure short saber obi wan" and then a description field.
This would behind the scenes copy the existing collectible, make it a variant and then add those fields.
I think it would be easier to add those types of variants like that. This way the site can support the hardcore collectors but try to keep it as unobtrusive as possible to the rest. I would like to support this level of detail because I feel like it is important to some collectors but I also want to make it easy to do so.
Thoughts or any ideas others have?
Similar sites out there, add this level of detail but they add it as a whole new collectible with the crazy descriptive title, which I don't want to do, difficult to link similar stuff together that way.
