Well I paid for my wife and I's four day passes like in October of last year if I remember correctly, booked the hotel for us about 2 months ago with a family friend who works for Marriot and booked our flights out of Newark Airport on Continental (we live in NYC), EVERYTHING was working out as planned...and NOW we find out she's pregnant!

The doctor doesn't want her to fly because she is considered high risk. So I need opinions on what I should do.

None of my friends are really into sci-fi comics or collectibles. I do have a friend who goes anywhere, to anything anytime. I think we all have one of those bum friends who don't work and is always ready to roll. Only probably is he get's SUPER ANNOYING after about 10 hrs so I couldn't imgaine being cooped up with him for days on end. I know it sounds mean but it's true.

So guys should I just write Comic Con to get a refund on the tix and lose the money on the air and hotel?? OR should I go alone? I never really go places alone, I have a ton of friends out here just no one that's into comics, video games, collectibles etc.

This sucks!:slap

I would still go (if your pregnant wife doesn't have a problem with it). I'm going alone. Plenty of cool people to hang out with there that you will probably meet at the SSF party, if there is one. And you still end up by talking to people at the show while standing in line.

I know exactly what you mean about your friend getting annoying after awhile. I have a couple of friends who are just like that and I do limit how much time I hang out with them so we remain friends. And one of them is the only one who might attend a comic convention; I asked him to go once, and he never committed, so I stopped asking now that I've had a blast doing it myself a few times.

You could probably sell the ticket in front of the place for twice of what you paid for it.

It would suck to loose $500+ in airline flight.

How pregnant is your wife?

and congratulations.

That's so funny but that's exactly how I feel too!:lol

Thanks for the congrats she's only a month but it took fertility meds and stuff to make it happen so the doc doesn't wanna take any chances. It just sucks having that plane seat and con ticket go to waste. Her name will be on her badge so I probably couldn't sell it.:(

Without knowing any details, I really don't get the whole 'pregnant women shouldn't fly thing.' I mean airplanes really aren't that bad/rough. I mean if you crash, it really doesn't matter if you are pregnant or not. You're going to get really hurt either way. And if you just found out, she is probably very early along right? I would tend to think she'd be OK on the plane (but then again I'm not at all familiar with pregnancies) but I'd think SDCC itself might be rough on her. I mean if she just camped out in Hall H all day she would be OK, but I wouldn't drag her all around the con.

So I'd say if you want to make up some of your money, sell your wife's ticket(s). Heck, you might even be able to craiglist them and have a local take both your wife's con ticket and airplane ticket (and hotel if you really wanted I guess :lol). But I say DEFINATELY GO. Whether it is by yourself or with a buddy. Just go!

I've never had anyone at the con check my ID when I was picking up my badge. Heck, two years ago I picked up my Dad's badge for him on preview night because he wasn't flying in until the following day. Luckily my back-up for that was that my Dad's name is my middle name and I could just use the old "I go by my middle name" excuse and have gotten it. But if you just get your badge from two seperate people, you shouldn't even have a hard time getting your wife's badge.

Thanks for the craiglist idea buttmunch never thought of that. The thing with pregnancies and flying is air pressure and miscarriages. Doesn't happen often, but there's a chance just the same.

I suggest you go at it alone. This might also be the last time in a really long time where you'll have time on your own. As a parent of two kids under the age of three, believe me when I say you will be happy you went.

Go. Without the annoying friend. If you can, hook up with the board friends, if you have any. If you can't survive on your own for more than a few hours at a time without freaking out, then sell the tickets. You could always call the travel agent and ask for suggestions. They may even have a loophole refund for pregnancies. In fact, everyone might have this loophole refund thing.

You might be able to get a refund, or at least a partial refund for the airline since since she's pregnant and can't fly. I'm betting the hotel might do the same if you explain the circumstances and they can easily resell the rooms.

Sell the CC tickets through Craiglist or eBay.

You can always go alone too. Why not?

I'd try seeing if you can get your money back for the airline and hotel, then go from there. If you can't, then I'd go alone. If you can get your money back, sell the tickets on eBay.

I believe that with a doctor's note saying your wife is unable to fly, the airlines should give you a refund...and so should the hotels. You are giving them plenty of notice if you decide to go that route.

I agree with others that you should just go - hang out with some board friends and have a blast before the responsibilities of fatherhood set in - that is of course if your wife is okay with that.

Thanks for the input guys, I think I'll call the airline and hotel monday and see what they say. Worse case scenario I'll go it alone, it's true that this might be the last time I have some piece of mind. :)

Just go alone...this will probably be the last time you can go until the kid gets older...Sell the ticket on EBAY and hang with one of your fellow freaks...

if you want to sell your ticket, your wife needs to be there to pick it up.

I would go alone. I always go with my friends but I would rather walk around by myself. I consider them as baggage.

Not really. I've never been asked to show ID when picking up a ticket. I've picked up my Dad's before. They just try to get through them as fast as possible. Any year they could change things though, but the past 4 years I've gone its always been the same.
