The real issue is that GG just flat-out doesn't care. Period.

So, the only resolution would be for LFL to make them care... or strip away the golden goose.

I would agree.

I know last year when I was covering SDCC as press for Sandtroopers SS saw the pass and gave me all kinds of info. GG When I was over there every time I tried to talk just looked at me like we don't give a damn.

That is the mantra of Gentle Giant. I've seen these tools with their utter contempt, sheer arrogance, and disrespect for their fans, year after year at Cons.

Like most GG customers, if it wasn't for the fact that they do make a great product, I would have dropped them like a bad habit years ago.

I would absolutely love to see GG get chin checked by LFL. Hell, if they got their license pulled (very unlikely) I would be ok with that too, since I'm pretty happy with my GG collection so far.

In the end, I just hope some day they get what's coming to them, for all the crap they put their fans through the years.

I don't care about mass-produced busts, but GG's business model sucks. Screw them! :lol

It's ridiculous.

Writing a "draw names from a hat" program to pick a certain number of names from your database is incredibly simple. It should take just a few minutes to implement correctly. I will be happy to help them fix it for the low, low price of one clone commander five pack. :D

By pretending to mix it up, by including other "factors", you are not actually improving randomness in any way. You are just complicating things, and providing at the *best* case the Appearance of unfairness. I strongly suspect however, that they are also (unintentionally) introducing Actual unfairness.

The reason is this: if you take a list of all zip codes in your database, one per member, and select certain zip codes from that list to win, then the more densely populated (collector-wise) areas have much better odds. Essentially, certain zip codes are entering the contest many more times than certain other zip codes, but if any one person corresponding to a given code is drawn, then the whole batch wins out as well. If this is what has happened, it is really stacking the deck in the worst possible way.

There is absolutely no reason such a scheme should ever have been necessary. They may have thought they were doing it better by making it more complicated, but the end result may have been exactly the opposite.

It's really not that hard to do this. I mean that's how I pick the winners for the contests I run. I assign everyone a number and have it pick one number based on the number of entries. Nothing to it really.

The exclusives craziness combined with the crooked way the contests are run (in my opinion) are the main reasons I have quit my completest GG addiction. Sure, I had already paid for the Leia statue and Jango Bust at my local comic shop through store credit - selling comics - so I got them. And, I will probably still pick up Old Ben and ANH Leia. But, this crap system has already cost them over 700 bucks from me - (the Jabba setup, Zuckuss bust, the new maquettes, etc.) and the total will keep growing. Sure, one customer doesn't matter (and I truly believe that's Gentle Giant's new company mantra), but from following the Star Wars collectors boards, I can tell you our numbers are growing. Eventually, I hope GG doesn't have a choice but to reform their ways ... but being the pessimist I am, I doubt it :monkey2

Just curious, how many people going to SDCC is going to bring the issue of only certain zip codes being picked for the Neyo raffle up with GG? I just think, face to face, they can't really ignore you.

Well, I know over at Sandtroopers where setting up an interview with GG or trying at least. They're not the easiest to work with can ya believe that? :lol I plan on bringing it up 2 them and trying to get a better idea of the whole situation.

I guess I am just glad that I think their stuff is crap! :lol :monkey1

I sold all of my GG awhile ago.

Of course they can ignore you face to face. The one GG person I talked to at SDCC walked away from me in the middle of our conversation. I was asking about the base to the Luke animated maquette, since the prototype didn't match the others and I wanted to know if it was final. He attempted to wave away my question by saying something that wasn't correct, and when I tried to politely remind him otherwise in my attempt to get a real answer out of him, he turned and walked away.

However--in spite of everything they have done, I will definitely say that in my experience, the trophy for showing disdain for your fans and collectors would go to ACME over GG in a heartbeat. GG just doesn't seem to care about their fans, but ACME openly smirks and laughs at them.

Can you recap exactly what Acme did to you?

Was just going to say, before Tomandshell already did, that it's highly doubtful talking to them face-to-face will achieve anything. I remember being in the ungodly, chaotic line for a confirmed pre-ordered item last year, I tried to engage some of the GG staff standing around us into some light conversation...mebbe even talk about some of the items on display...tell them they looked good, ask if they had any favorite lines (well, the line was moving like molasses, what else was there to do?). Short, mostly one word or phrase answers (if they didn't walk off before you finished your question/statement); pretty evident to me that they were only there to herd us schmucks. Once I finally got to the counter, I was rushed -- no chance to look over any other items they had for purchase...pretty poor.

Look at their blog site....they don't respond to any question....no matter how benign and genuinely sincere in just requesting information. Amanda (their spokesperson) pretty much glosses over everything and just keeps posting the GG announcements/lines. Don't even know why they're bothering with a "talkback" section....mebbe just to get giggles over a beer or two during their breaks.

Do you really think they care? I have no delusions that my $$ and opinions matter not a whit to them. Because if I don't like their programs/policies and protest, there will be someone else who'll take over my vacated spot and take anything GG hands out.

Off topic for a sec, do you guys think trading a Malak bust for a Sidious bust is an even deal?

Yes, I do. I have both and Palps is pretty damn cool. The detail in the face alone is worth getting. You see like every wrinkle in his deformed face. When I got mine a while back I paid $95 for it so I would say that's close to what Malak is going for.

I agree with you I dont think GG is very customer oriented but instead they are all about making their product look like the hottest thing out there.

Well Im glad for one thing if we have questions for Sideshow they are always more than helpful and come out and just say if they screw something up and sometimes they even fix it what a novel concept. Plus look at their customer service and communication. Dusty is always willing to answer questions whenever she can and let us know as much about their product as possible. I dont know how she does it but it seems like whenever you mention her name she will usually show up in the thread in just a bit. I think she may search for her name when she gets online or something.
