Re: Confirmed Upcoming Sideshow Star Wars Releases: 1/6 Figures and Accessories

Not re-releasing figures such as stormtroopers is a bad move. For folks who got into the game at a later stage would buy these figures up in a heartbeat. Not releasing them is bad business.

Exactly. I would buy (2) Stormtroopers, Emperor Palpatine and OT Yoda if they ever release new versions. The eBay prices are ridiculous so I'll just hang tight and hope that Sideshow releases new versions of these figures.

This, this, a 100 times this.

Why would they leave the stormtrooper market open to the scalpers? The strange thing is they actually have.

Since the Deluxe clones seems to be targeted for army builders maybe they have thought it through and will be releasing new stormies as well down the line.

Re: Confirmed Upcoming Sideshow Star Wars Releases: 1/6 Figures and Accessories

Not counting the differences due to assembly there are a couple of differences on the sandtrooper ( no stripes on the gray areas of the helmet, different knee plate and some difference on the stomach armor plate.

ANH and ESB stormtrooper should be exactly the same since it's the same props used but the ESB troops gets a new coat of paint and the frown is black and the other details on the helmet are stickers instead of painted on.

The ROTJ are much more different since they had to make new armor and had to make new ones by molding from a screen used suit. So all details are much softer, armor parts are cut differently and the helmet is skewed due to the helmet piece used for vacuum forming broke or something.

As a 1/6 collector and big Star Wars fan, personally, I don't care about any of this. All differences in Stormtrooper armor between movies and even within the same movie are completely unintentional and a result of production issues. Reproducing those issues would be faithfully reproducing errors. Why bother? It's something I'm sure LFL will not be interested in because troopers are supposed to look only one particular way, regardless of the process issues they had when making the costumes.

I'm not holding my breath for new Stormtroopers in the next 12 months, but I'd love to be surprised. That wouldn't stop me from getting one of the originals however, since I'd prefer to have both.

I agree for the most part. I confess, If at all possible I would like the figures to look like small people taken direct from the movies. But for 1/6, in reality any good to decent representation will do. The sideshow trooper big chested and small crotched as it is with an oddly shaped helmet I could live with even if I would like to have a better version. Problem is paying +$200 for a figure that was $85 when it was actually available kind of makes me not want to.

If we are talking 1/1 helmets and costumes however I want every little thumbprint to be there if possible. I'm mostly interested in the helmets though.

Re: Confirmed Upcoming Sideshow Star Wars Releases: 1/6 Figures and Accessories

I have both Sideshow and Marmit troopers, to make sure I have the best of what's out there. ;)

Things like helmet proportions and crotch size should be as correct as possible since those are part of the ideal design - SSC most definitely made the crotch too small. But a thumb print on the inside of the upper left piece of bicep armor? I couldn't care less about that - it was a marker for the cast/crew to know how to put the pieces on, it wasn't part of the in-universe functional armor design. So in the end I'm not into prop replication, these figures should go beyond that and be true to the movie universe.

Example: Some of the aliens were puppets. I don't want a model of a puppet, I wan't a model of a creature the puppet represented on screen. If I pop the top off of an R2 figure, I'd expect to see electronics, not a giant cavity with a small Kenny Baker figure inside. ;)

Re: Confirmed Upcoming Sideshow Star Wars Releases: 1/6 Figures and Accessories

I understand what you mean - I think. :)

But the way I see it as much as I want to have a Luke Skywalker who actually looks like Mark Hamill as Luke, not some idealized version I want the aliens or whatever to look and feel like they did in the movie. If looking like the original props warts and all is what it takes then I much prefer it to a version of how the toymaker and/or Lucasfilm "feels" it should look.

As I posted somewhere else, I had seen these figures from time to time and thought about getting one, but the thing that pushed me over the edge was seeing the HT Bespin Luke that pretty much looked like the real thing.

I wish I had gotten in sooner and bought some stormtroopers while they were available though. :slap

Re: Confirmed Upcoming Sideshow Star Wars Releases: 1/6 Figures and Accessories

Added the 4 Deluxe versions... even though they'll be up for order in a few weeks. They went straight from planned to PO faster than most :lol

I have a Marmit and had a SS (didn't care for it at all), what parts on the SS are better than the Marmit? Did you kit bash the two together? If so, I'd love to see some pics.

Re: Confirmed Upcoming Sideshow Star Wars Releases: 1/6 Figures and Accessories

Solo_bones has them bashed together. I prefer the build quality and materials on SSC. ABS armor. Weapons and accessories on SSC much much better - the Marmit stuff looks like more toy-like. I also like how the SSC version has all the armor pieces separated for better articulation.

Solo can probably give a great run-down of his bash and why he used the specific pieces from each version.

According to french forums site fana-collec and relayed in this article at Mint In Box, here's what we can expect Sideshow to reveal at this year SDCC. All may not be displayed but most should see release in the next 12 month...hopefully.

phew, what a relief. Only 1 item on that list that I'd even be remotely interested in.

Re: Confirmed Upcoming Sideshow Star Wars Releases: 1/6 Figures and Accessories

IMO, that list is too long, and the "possible" list is just random stuff pulled out of a hat. In other words, don't hold your breath for anything specific from either list.

Re: Confirmed Upcoming Sideshow Star Wars Releases: 1/6 Figures and Accessories

Didn't notice there was a second list with possible announcements. First list sounds plausible even though last year's show was far less extensive (to say the least).
Second list is indeed much less convincing. There's no way Sideshow will reveal that much during/around the event.

Re: Confirmed Upcoming Sideshow Star Wars Releases: 1/6 Figures and Accessories

They have... before I compiled the list I looked through every page of the "Ask Sideshow" questions to update and confirm the list was accurate. Now will they do all of it... probably not. But each item listed was discussed as planned or in progress by a Sideshow representative.

Re: Confirmed Upcoming Sideshow Star Wars Releases: 1/6 Figures and Accessories

will there be a SDCC Star Wars 1:6 exclusive this year?

Re: Confirmed Upcoming Sideshow Star Wars Releases: 1/6 Figures and Accessories

hope the preview the probe droid..............:yess:

but geez is that thing gonna be massive...........:panic:

Re: Confirmed Upcoming Sideshow Star Wars Releases: 1/6 Figures and Accessories

There are so many potentially cool pieces on the two lists across various licenses--Star Wars, Marvel, DC, LotR. I guess we'll see.

Re: Confirmed Upcoming Sideshow Star Wars Releases: 1/6 Figures and Accessories

I'd be down for Luke and Tauntaun and maybe Grevious on top of the Vader I already have on order and I can pretty much call 2014 a wrap.
