When I first started collecting, and I mean seriously collecting, it was the 3.75 figures from GIJoe and Star Wars. I grew out of it and then came the age of video games.
One day, I got sick and Dad got me some comic books. So, for awhile, I collected comic books that I would get an issue here and there to finish out the story... but i got them from the local grocery and not the comic book store.
In time, the grocery store would miss out on some issues, or that they only got one or two of them, and were either gone or ripped. That forced me to look into the comic stores. The first time? different. The comic store had figures, statues, collectibles, and of course... comic books. I kept focus for awhile, and then next thing I knew, I was back into star wars and collected the 3.75" figs again. And then came the 1/6 star wars. so, i stuck to comics and 1/6 star wars. As for statues? I always was curious cuz they don't really get posed like the 1/6 and 3.75" do. They LOOKED neat, but i didn't see value in collecting them at that time.
Fast forward to the last year and a half. I have nearly converted my collection to 'collectibles' and now only have kept the few 1/6 military figures, a few comic books, and other displayed figures. I went from having just (1) PF (James Bond, Connery) that I won from Sideshow, to PF Han, Luke, Leia, Vader, Kenobi, Elektra, Spidey, 7 of 9, Endoskeleton, Connery and Brosnan Bonds, Hulk, and Doom, as well as Ghostrider and Sauron. I'm waiting on Wolverine and Iron Man, looking for a Hellboy and Logan, drooling over a Maul.... you get the point.
I've gone from one format to another, but the thing is... while it seemed that i could part with figures of 3.75" to 1/6 scale... i'm hard-pressed to let go of the PFs. My fiancee understands this and is not only accepting, but feels the same way with her own collections.
To answer the initial question of 1/6 line? I've gone away from it. Not to offend those who collect ONLY the 1/6 line because I have done so as well... but I feel that the PFs and statues have a little bit more 'collectible' feel to them. They WANT to be displayed, unlike keeping them in their boxes or plastic covers. They're conversation pieces which bring out a certain common denominator from "i remember that comic book" to "i remember that in Star Wars...". i would rather give up the rest of my 1/6 line than to let go of the statues....except for a few pieces on either side.
