i sold most of my SW 12" figs...

getting rid of my Angel 12" figs...

getting rid of my LOTR 12" figs...

I'm sticking with Hot Toys. They are coming out with some cool Predator and Alien stuff so HT is the 12" in my room in the coming year.

i sold all of mine but my brother kept some of his, but now he is considering on selling most of his too. Will definitely keep at least 1 Luke excl.

there's just too many great things coming out so we decided to stick with Marvel and get some Hot Toys stuff. I'm really digging those Predator figs :rock :rock :rock :rock Sometimes, you gotta do what you gotta do and make sure you don't regret anything later on. Which I'm not.

...oh yeah...Moore is also coming out with great stuff. Another reason why I'm cutting down.

so hard to make a definite decision.

wow, I'm really amazed (and quite shocked) at how many of you are following the line of "I either collect all of a line... or I drop it completely"

how ridiculous.

The most enjoyable way to do it, and which also ends with you having the most varied collection is to just.... buy... the ones..... you love.

dont say "I'm collecting the PFs now....." or that you're "dropping out of the 1/6 lines now". How can you say that.... does that mean that you'll never buy another one of those again? I've never understood this mindset of having to be a completist to such a point that if you can't have every single one of a certain line.... then you won't allow yourself to have any.

I can understand not having the money for everything you like. I'm in that boat now, but that doesnt mean that I'm dropping an entire line/scale/format, it just means I have to be more choosy with the pieces that I buy.

And I will buy the pieces/character/props I love... regardless of whether they are 1/6, PF, movie props, 7" figures, statues, artwork etc

I get what your saying and agree to a point but personally with my collection, when I have all these statues and PF's, 1/6 figures look just out of place, even the best of them, and presentation is an important factor for me. So I either commit or I decide to collect certain other lines.
I probably could have explained it better, but you get the idea?

I hate that there's so much coolness coming out this year. The Hot Toys figures are too nice to pass up so some of my most wanted figures might have to get cut.
Bond Legacy figures will be first, maybe the Hughes White Queen Maquette, Medicom Ghost Rider, and Medicom Movie Venom.
That'll leave Star Wars, LOTR, Angel/Buffy, and Terminator 2 along with the Medicom Spidey Figures aside from Hot Toys.
It's all still to damn expensive.

Well, personnaly, I'm done with 1/6 world.PF is the greatest medium ever for a collectible figure (IMO,of course.).

Yeah, and one day you'll say that full 1:1 scale is the greatest medium ever for a collectible. ;)
The higher the Quality, the more you pay.
1:6 is the most affordable option for me and I think many others.

my point would have worked just as well for anyone dropping PF's for 1/6, or dropping props for dioramas. I understand that some people prefer one format to another... I just never got people who say "i'm collecting this format now.... I'm not allowed to collect any pieces in another)

oh well :)

I will still get some main SW and LOTR characters, and that's it. I planed to collect them all, but now no.
i'm on the same page. i have Plo Koon and Asajj on order, but after that i wont be getting anymore except for Dooku, Vader, Palpatine, and other alien jedi. i'm also considering dropping the SW lines from SS altogether. marvel is my new favorite right now as it seems to be their most steady and creative lines. LOTR PF might keep me going, but not at this rate. same with their 12" lineup. i canceled the rest of my preorders because i've simply lost interest with them.

Well, for me, it's 1:6 or nothing. Yes there are some great busts, statues and PF's out there, but as someone else said, they kind of just sit there. The 1:6 medium allows you to change the display of the same character if you wish. To customize it. To fit it into a diorama or scene better. I've been 1:6 since Gi Joe and Captain Action were both sneaking into Barbie's dream house.
Now, unfortunately, after a nice run of getting some 1:6 we never thought we'd see things are stalling. Majestic gave us classic BSG, Dark Shadows, Phibes....but now it appears they have gone from the market. Sideshow gave us a plethora of great 1:6 licenses with a multitude of figures, but, ALAS, it seems that now its all about Star Wars [and to a lesser extent LOTR]
Makes me glad to hear about the Triad/SFM partnership. Maybe the only place to get 1:6 without importing.
Which brings me to HotToys. Great figures from great licenses. More expensive, yes, but with all the $ you can save by Sideshow not producing anything from most 1:6 lines it just might work out.

I have almost entirely all 12 inch figures, with the exception of a couple 18 inch ones.

I never cared for the smaller figures, but I do love 18 inch figures and PFs. I would even like a lifesize bust as long as it was of a favorite character of mine. If someone ever produced a Barnabas lifesize bust or a PF figure, I'd buy it without blinking once. But I'm not rich and money is tight, so I can't do that for just any character and I would never get rid of my 12 inch. I don't really set out to collect one scale and only one scale. 1/6th scale enables me to have a variety....but even then, I only buy what I like and can afford. I don't believe in the 'all or nothing' approach to collecting.

I feel exactly the same way.... My collection is not ALL 1/6th or ALL PF... I just pick and choose the things I love and want and I buy them. Sometimes I get tired of a certain item and I sell it, but most of my stuff is still around.

Not a completist of any line, including SW.... I didn't order Kit or Bib, because I didn't care for the characters that much. I've ordered all of the LOTR figures, not because I must have them all... but because so far it's been only characters I loved. I also have HT figures in variations, different ones I liked for one reason or another, same with my Medicom figs. I have my Freddy PF and my Jaws Maquette, even though they don't really fit in with the rest of it.....

Just go with what you love and don't let it be ALL one thing or ALL for another.... pick and choose and it will make for a more pleasant collecting experience. At least IMO.... :D

Im sorry you feel this way HA, but I never said that I was a completist or I had to be a completist to be happy. Never once.

However my standpoint and dillema is that Im trying to decide if the sideshow 1:6 is giving me enough enjoyment to buy (even the vharacters that I like) and sacrifice buying other things. That was the purpose of this thread. Because fact of the matter is, like i said I have invested around $800+ in just the few characters and figures that were released in 2006 and this year so far. Thats a sizeable amount of money to put towards other things that "may" give me more enjoyment and pride in my collection. That is why im considering selling it all. Not because I need to be a completist.

I think you took my point the wrong way. imo there is no reason to be a completist in anything but having a "focus" really helps because this hobby is what is riddiculous. Every where you turn there's a new release, new line, something cooler to buy.... It's a never ending world and without having a focus for your collecting , im sorry but youre going to have a hard time.

I see what you mean Nash.... It's hard to choose... You just have to go with your heart... Go with what you can't live without and purge the rest. It's the best way to survive in this crazy hobby...

wait... you feel sorry for me? I'm going to have a hard time?

I wasn't aiming my post at you, but rather the multiple posts from multiple people who were all echoing the same sentiments. If you felt I was talking to you... then there's not a lot I can do about that.

You're right about there always being new things round the corner, new lines, new brands, new figures.... and that is exactly why I will never limit myself to one particular line. I look at all the items being released from all the companies in all the different formats, and if there is an individual one that I like? Then I'll pick it up, even if it's the only one of that format. I don't display 'collections' ...... i display 'items' :)

Buy hey, if someone needs to hold themselves to one brand/line/format in order to have what they consider to be a happy and full collection? Then I'm happy for 'em! At the end of the day we're all buying toys 'cause we like 'em :D
