Considering letting Marvel go

Loki, you shouldn't drop the line altogether, just do what I do and get the pieces that you REALLY like and let go of the others.

Would I like to have the Logan, Punisher, Elektra PF's? Sure, but I'd rather have my Doom, Hulk, Iron Man and Spider-Man, so I got those instead.

Tom made the same decision a while back and I told him he'd regret it. What happened? After he sold every Marvel piece, he went back and bought the FF Dio!

Whatever you do just think about it long and hard (that's what she said). :D

It's true! But I am no longer a completist and that's the toughest hurdle to overcome for me. I still don't regret selling the ones I had as they were space hogs, and keeping them would have meant cancelling Jabba and future Star Wars PFs. I had to let the dioramas go and I did the right thing in clearing off that shelf. But the fact that I don't have the complete line anymore doesn't keep me from picking up one or two pieces in the future if they aren't too big. In general I am a completist but I have a small amount of space for a few assorted pieces that I like on the side.

Good to hear that you still have room in you heart for the Marvel line Tom!

How can you even entertain the notion of getting rid of the X-Men vs Sentinel and Grey Hulk pieces? What kind of madness has taken you?!

The X-Men VS. Sentinel Exclusive was awesome. Incredible. Fantastic.

But it was sitting in the only place in my office where I could conceivably put Jabba and his throne. So I had to make a choice. I didn't have room to just stick the Sentinel diorama in my closet forever.

Besides, if somebody else out there wants it badly, who am I to keep it boxed up and in my closet for years? Let it go to somebody who will love it and show it off. These things belong on display, not boxed up in the dark.

 Well, my excuse is that I don't have a big enough place yet, when I get a bigger place, I shall release my boys from there cardboard prisons! :D

Well, that's a good excuse! But I have no plans on getting a larger home or office in the near future, so anything that goes into my closet is going to stay there for a long time. So it needs to go on display or find a new home.

That's part of the problem. They are such fantastic pieces and I know if I let them go, I'll almost certainly never get them again. You guys aren't helping me here.

I'm seriously considering getting rid of the Vs. and just concentrating on the PFs. I've stopped getting the archive sets too although Doc Ock was great. I'm just not that big a Marvel fan and I'm liking a lot of what DC Direct is putting out right now and I have so little space as it is.

Why must eevryone be so "all or none" Keep what you like.. Get rid of what you can do w/o..

"Completism" is a disease and it should be treatable with meds.

I really dont get the all or nothin thing, but thats just how some people collect. There is no way in hell I could live or die by an entire line.

I gets what I likes and leaves it at that.

My perspective on this...

Make sure you have a core license then prioritize from there. Understanding that space is not unlimited also helps put things into perspective when thinking where to display them and where to store the boxes. My core license is obviously Marvel. When new pieces from other lines come out I consider them in a case by case basis. Boba Fett PF, LOTR dioramas, etc.

Do not be a completist even for your core license. Be true to what you like and vote with your dollars on what you don't. For example, I wouldn't be caught dead with a Juggs maquette, Beast maquette, Thing maquette or Logan PF. I don't think those look good and I have seen them in person. Others may like them but I do not.

Buy what you like within your means and you'll be a happy collector.

It's not that I'm a completist, for any line I collect. It just seems wierd having a few Marvel pieces surrounded by all these SW and LOTR items. There are plenty of other Marvel items I'd love to get, but money and space are going to be an issue un the future.

i had to bail out of marvel too....except for hulk, i'm keeping him. SW PF's and SW 12" for me....and some military 12"ers.....and I just got into LOTR 12"ers...and am fighting getting the LOTR PF's, although at the rate the LOTR PF's come out, that wouldn't be too bad.

When I decided to cut the Marvel line, the only pieces I've kept are some of the "biggest" heroes; Spider-Man PF's, Hulk PF's, Cap. America PF, etc. My only other consideration was how hard they would be to replace if circumstances changed in the future and I had the space and money to collect them again.

So this was the reasoning behind getting rid of DOOM?..

:lol < LOL!

I tried this back in mid 2006. I tried to cut out all my comic statues. Sold off everything I had. I lasted about six months. :monkey3

The breakdown came when I decided I would buy just one comic statue, the old FS Wonder Woman battling Serpents (Bruckner/Hughes), which I had longed for but never had. Then, all that madness with the SS Exclusive Spideys, so I was lucky enough to get those. Then that damn Iron Man Legendary Scale bust pre-order. Then I thought, man that SS Iron Man comiquette looks so good with the bust and went back and bought that one (having cancelled it, I had to pay twice the retail).

So now, I'm back down the road with a complete set of Women of the DCU Hughes busts (thanks Greedo!) and back in the saddle with the comic collection. :D

What I learned though, was that just collecting movie statues wasn't enough for me, there was too much cool stuff pulling me in the comic arena. So now that I know, I'm happy. I can happily look at the Marvel stuff and buy what I consider the coolest stuff. No more seeing what is coming out and groaning and guiltily pre-ordering it, then cancelling, and getting back on the waiting list and all that nonsense. I would suggest trying it, getting rid of the comic stuff and see what happens. Pretty drastic, and you may really regret it later, but then again, you may not. I don't think you will ever know for sure unless you try it.

You have a 50-50 chance. Those are pretty good odds, I think.
