Although they may be impractical, I find the designs very interesting and refreshing. We always "ooh and ahhh" when we see futuristic concepts on film or television. Yet when out of the ordinary concepts are introduced us in reality we call it ugly and impractical. 
The design of the PS3 wasn't well received by some folks if I remember correctly, but it stands as the premier console that introduced many of us to the joys of watching our favorite shows and movies in Blu-ray high def.
