I feel the same way... always been a favorite. But also Dooku's design is quite cool as well.

Those two are my favorites too. Luke's is just iconic to me. Dooku's is a great looking design.

What don't you like about it MaulFan?

Just not a fan of the shape to it. Before the PT, my favorite was Jedi Luke, mostly because as a kid with no internet, I never really had a good look at Old Ben's to see how similar they were. I like the use of rings in the design, which the Ep1 Obi-Wan incorporates in a few places, I like the ones with ends like Ep1 and 3/4 Obi-Wan and ROTJ Luke. Something about Mace's just feels to out of place. Most of the other Jedi sabers all share common traits and Mace's almost seems to have none of them, and I'm talking about the AOTC/ROTS hilt, the TPM hilt actually was much like other Jedi, but on the simpler side, it was basically half of Mauls saber with a few mods.

The only thing out of place is the color. Which still bugs me SJ got Lucas to cave and give him purple. Being the LS fan that i am, i can't live without an explanation of why he and only he has purple. (what's the best EU explanation anyways?) Lucas shoulda had balls and said no you get blue or green. Or introduce more colors, SJ Saying "i want to stand out when i see myself fight on geonosis" always bugged me.

Not according to Lucas and Nick Gillard. Mace, Sidious Anakin and Yoda are officially equals in lightsaber combat.

I find Mace´s saber too much ostentatious for a Jedi, but I think it is a great move for Lucas part because it shows perfectly how even a high Jedi council member can become arrogant.

I personally wish he would have given a bunch of different colors. Wasn't Plo Koon's originally yellow or somthing? As for the EU explanation, I coul be wrong, but to the best of my memory its pretty vague but is along these lines. Forgive me if I'm wrong... Green and Blue are the only naturally occuring lightsaber crystals. To get red ones the Sith have to artificially create theirs and I think Mace did the same to get purple. There may be a better explantion for it in the CW novel Shatterpoint by Matthew Stover, but if there is I've forgotten it.

I also like the purple saber. It was rather exciting for me because I remember having the old lightsaber that was basically a flashlight with a white extending blade that screwed in to it. I used colored plastic wrap to make mine purple.

Let's look at the movies though. Mace beat Sidious who beat Yoda (written by Lucas). This is reinforced in the EU because just about everywhere in the Clone Wars comics, Mace is reveared for his lightsaber skills by just about all the Jedi.

Besides saying Mace beat Sidious will spark a huge debate about whether Mace won or Sidious was faking.

As for the EU Mace is reveared for his saber skills, but not just because of how good he is but because he invented his own style of combat Vapaad.
