My favorite and coolest looking!

Let's look at the movies though. Mace beat Sidious who beat Yoda. This is reinforced in the EU because Mace is reveared for his lightsaber skills by just about all the Jedi.

Come on dude, if they are equals then they can beat each other in lightsaber combat. Is it so hard to understand? By this logic Obi-Wan is better than Anakin and we know he isn´t. The EU can say whatever you want, but Lucas an Gillard made it very clear.

Even when two equals meet in battle one will win some way or the other.

Besides saying Mace beat Sidious will spark a huge debate about whether Mace won or Sidious was faking. :lol

As for the EU Mace is reveared for his saber skills, but not just because of how good he is but because he invented his own style of combat Vapaad.

I know, been there before, but when you consider the toll the battle with Mace took on Sidious, physically, if Anakin hadn't showed up, Sidious would've been toast. Wasn't Vapaad, if I remember correctly, taught to him by the older Jedi (I forgot) who was the first to jump ship in the Clone Wars series to Dooku's cause. He was the same race as those guys on Jabba's skiff.

Sora Bulq but he didn´t invent Vaapad, Mace did.

If Anakin hadn´t showed up then Sidious hadn´t reveled himself as a Sith lord to Anakin in the first place. What I am trying to say is Anakin have to be there not only because Sidious made sure he would come (PALPATINE: You do know, don't you, if the Jedi destroy me, any chance of saving her will be lost.) but because it is his destiny to be there. Nothing happens by accident in Star Wars.

Yeah Mace invented Vapaad, but I think Sora Bulq studied it as well, as did Depa Billaba (Mace's padawan, the lady on the Jedi council in TPM with the two studs in the bridge of her nose).

Sometimes I'm amazed by the incredibly useless geeky information I have off the top of my head when it comes to Star Wars. Surely I have better things that I could remember, like people's birthdays. :monkey1

Granted, and I'm not saying he wasn't planning to have Anakin there. But if Anakin hadn't arrived, judging by just how badly Palpatine'd become physically (which I'm guessing was NOT part of his plan), Mace would've destroyed him.

I love and still love the look of Luke's ANH/ESB saber, based on the Graflex flash. I always loved the tapered scoop top to the hilt. In the old days, you could only get fleeting glimpses of the hilt in the actual movie theater, or maybe some publicity shots and behind-the-scenes books and magazines. Once I started seeing more close up pictures of it, I liked it even more. There was something really cool and unusual that it is a bit asymmetrical, with the "switch" (?) to the side, and all those weird little knobs and holes on it.

I have found that the whole look of the original trilogy has infuenced my taste in general, always preferring something a little more gritty and asymmetrical than something shiny and new. I collect old cameras now, although I haven't been able to get the graflex 3-cell since sellers know SW people are interested and not just camera collectors, and the prices are ridiculously inflated. I got a kick out of seeing so many old camera pieces and equipment repurposed and altered in the movies for props. The look is so distinct and unusual and fits the movies perfectly.

I don´t think he planned to be disarmed either but Palpatine has always all the aces up his sleeve. He would win no matter what. For example, we don´t know if he had his second saber concealed inside his other sleeve. That if we don´t count Anakin would be there for sure.

And Palpatine wasn´t injured or wounded, He got his scars as a result of a Dark Side reaction.

That's another debate in itself. :lol

Lucas said Palpatine wasn´t tired or weakened at all in the Making of Episode 3 book so it can´t be an injury. And Pablo Hidalgo said it was a Dark Side reaction.

If that was the case, then why didn't Lucas tell Ian to play Palpatine "faster and more Intense" after shooting Mace out the window. Instead Ian played the exact opposite. Sure looks like he got an ass beating to me:

Given the context of the films, the way I see it, Mace had won the lightsaber duel, Palpatine sensed Anakin coming and played the weakened old man card to win Anakin's favor, otherwise he'd have just unleashed Sith lightning on Mace as he did eventually and later on Yoda without hesitation.

I just think being zapped by Force lightning like that is bound to cause some disfiguration. And I don't think that really contradicts what Lucas said. I'm not familiar with Pablo Hidalgo, who is he? Depending on what he means by a dark side reaction it could be due to the Force lightening.

Let me preface by saying no one would expect inconsistency in Star Wars.
In the novelization, the Yoda/Sidious duel was more than just lightsaber combat, and Yoda was able to keep fighting but he heard the shock troopers coming (and I believe Sidious called them).
Now personally, I see it like this: I believe that Palpatine saw only Yoda as a threat and that Mace was considerably weaker. As Luke pointed out, arrogance WAS his weakness, however, he was the ultimate opportunist, and used Anakin as his weapon. I don't buy that it was his plan, since he never left so much to chance any other time.
Another thing to consider is that Ian McDiarmid isn't too handy with sword fighting.
As for Anakin and Obi Wan's duel, here we see an example of the differences between a gifted fighter and a true warrior. Anakin had the gifts, but Obi Wan used the environment to his advantage, gaining the high ground.

Although I like the look of Sidious' lightsaber, something about it seems to have drawn inspiration from an 'adult toy' catalog.

Mace is the only Jedi in jedi council who master the lightsaber form vii which is the highest level in lightsaber arts. that's why Palpatine lost in lightsaber duel until anakin arrives. if the battle is one on one, no one can ever beat him.
