Fun not old (as in 1950's) and ugly, to those that don't get it, it's the face that is causing most not to like this piece. It's not about her having fun or the pose.

No, for me I don't think it fits with the others in the line primarily because of the "fun" and the pose. I also think the body is a bit disproportional and not in a good way like the con sketch (not that I'd want a statue like that either). I can't really tell if I like the face - although the head seems a bit small.

Focusing on the non-serious aspect of her lost a sale for them here. It's too bad because the other sketch is beautiful, and it would have been a perfect addition to the line.

As it stands now, she's pin-up fluff and little else. Maybe if they do Mary Marvel they can use this one:

It would be so 'cute' and 'playful'.

I'm not really understanding what people thought with the AH! DC line, they are going off his sketches and for the most part are part cheesecake and this Batgirl may be the most cheesecake of them all but honestly it's in line with a good portion of his sketches.

I can understand not liking the sculpt or the facial expressions but the general theme is AH!'s version of the characters and I think why not as serious looking as the other pieces it's really right in line with what DC Direct had in mind.

Now the Mary Marvel is a neat sketch but may be pushing it as far as DC Direct is concerned, so I doubt they would use that.

We love Emerald City Con! It seems to coincide with Mega Con in Orlando, so we are on an alternating year schedule with them. We were there 3 years ago, and we were there last year. Schedule permitting, and provided they invite Adam, we hope to go again next year.

We'll I hope to see both of you there in 2011! Its going to be a three day event now and I hope Adam gets to do a sketch for the Monsters and Dames book, it's a fantastic way for folks to meet artists at the con and the proceedes go to charity.

If the artist himself felt that this version belonged in the line, I doubt he would have submitted the other sketch.

I don't consider any of the art used thus far to be 'cheesecake'. There's nothing tongue-in-cheek about any of it; just high quality representations of DC heroines, showcasing their power and beauty.

IMO, it's a nice cheesecake pin-up statue, but really doesn't fit with the other girls thematically. I mean, even Powergirl is striking a serious poise in this series. When did Bab's portrayal become so clownish & clumsy? Oh, is that why A. Moore had the Joker shoot her in the "Killing Joke"? Lol...

I don't collect them all, just the ones I want, so it's really no big whoop to me.

Another small beef I have is that this is 3rd announcement in a row that mainly features a Batman-centric female character & 4th out of 8th overall in the series already. Maybe they should rename the series "The (not quite actual) Covergirls from the D.C. (Batman) Universe."

oh, so your issue is that she looks old-fashioned and ugly, eh. hmmm. i don't see it that way but to each his/her own i guess. :peace

anyway, i should be getting this a little further down the line. damned hot toys is eating up most of my collectibles budget!

Not sure there at least to me but other than maybe the Powergirl, I see a bit of cheesecake in all the sketches/statues as I look at them now. It's the AH! line of statues though, not the general representations of the DC women's line. Again I have no problem with people not liking it or wanting to buy it just surprised by the reaction to it considering who drew the sketches and who it based off of as an artist.

Most of the Bab's as Batgirl stories were always kinda wink and nudge.... which is why I think when they introduced Cassandra as Batgirl, it was a serious no-nonsense Batgirl.

As for choices they are just picking the most popular women from DC and it happens quite a few of them are from Batman books. If I had to venture a guess on the most "popular" females I'd say it may look like:

Supergirl
Wonderwoman
Lois Lane
Catwoman
Batgirl
Harley Quinn
Zatanna
Powergirl
Poison Ivy
Black Canary

In terms of comic sales, Supergirl has pretty much always outsold Wonderwoman but I think in terms of name recognition Wonderwoman may be on top.

I'd be astonished to see a Lois Lane statue in this line but I think we will see a Supergirl.

I understand it's Adam Hughes, but not all of his art is comedic. This is the first statue based on a humourous sketch, and the effect is jarring.

I just received my Catwoman and she's amazing! :joy :rock The only small flaw is what looks like a little bit of white paint on her right leg but it's not too noticeable.

I thought there was going to be more of a gloss on her outfit but that can be fixed. :D I'm so happy I got her and she looks great with PG and WW.

Congrats on getting CW finally. Also BBTS is $5 more than alterego has batgirl for and i am pretty certain cornerstorecomics has her for around $79.99 preorder so does mostwantedcomics

Exactly. 90% of the sketches Adam has done with PG as the subject are humorous (usually revolving around her breasts) which is fine in that context. But DCD based the statue on a cover that had her in more powerful inclination which befit the rest of the Covergirls and so it works. I'm more bothered by the fact that DCD decided to just "google" a Batgirl image and completely bypassed Adam's sketch. It bother's me because it's a line of DC characters yes, but it's a series of statues based on his art and his depiction of these characters. Yes, Adam drew that sketch but it was a private commission and not his choice for the statue depiction of Batgirl. DCD has now starting touting that this line- "Batgirl is the latest superhero to join one of the most successful DC Direct statue lines of all time – the COVER GIRLS OF THE DC UNIVERSE!" Gee, DCD why do you think that is? you've had other depictions of the same characters that didn't sell as well right? it's Adam's name and style that sells these statues. Period. Now, I obviously can't speak for Adam but I'd feel disrespected as an artist if I had taken the time to come up with a concept and sketch and for DCD to say "we googled this one already thanks" . I guess at the end of the day it's not his sandbox and he just gets to play in it so he's at the mercy of DCD's say.

The poses and pieces created so far are powerful, confident and sexy women. The Sketch Adam provided is awesome and shows her at her best and the vision he has :rock. That would have made an incredible addition that would fit very well with the current line up.
This is the sketch Adam submitted to DC Direct for Batgirl Covergirls Statue:

DC Direct Google searched, and found a con sketch that Adam did for a fan that they preferred, and they sculpted that instead. You can see the sketch in its original form, in the owner's CAF Gallery:

That's the story behind this statue. DC Direct chose a cute pose over Adam's original, more serious design.

This new 'googled' Batgirl version however that DCD chose to go with instead just does not fit in with the rest. In addition considering the pics we've seen (pic below) facially she looks like a 10yr old little girl, and that is a little creepy.
Batgirl is confirmed as the next in the series.........

The original Sketch would have gone so much better with the line thus far.
