I don't really have an opinion either way; I liked the con sketch when Adam did it, and I still like it. But I also like the design he submitted for the statue, that wasn't used for this assignment. I'm always going to be Adam's biggest fan; I like both pieces of art equally, if maybe for different reasons.

Please feel free to re-post where ever you'd like.

I certainly like both pieces of art. The art he submitted for the statue is closer to the depiction of Batgirl that I prefer, so I'm disappointed in that sense. (Of course, I don't have the money or space for this line... but I wish I did, so hopefully that makes my opinion valid. :D )

That's the impression I got. IMO, Cassandra Cain just wasn't a likeable character.

I'm really enjoyng the current run of the new Batgirl series and I hope we get a Stephanie Brown/Batgirl cover girl statue.

I'll echo that thought by saying that I think anyone who dislikes this statue isn't wrong. We all like what we like.

In this case...this rendition happens to be what I like. :D

I enjoyed the Cassandra Cain run as Batgirl, I have the whole run and for the most part it was well written and the art was decent but.... least in my mind Batgirl will always be Barbara, though I would never like to see her revert from Oracle back to Batgirl, Oracle in her own right is a good character.

I have a Cassandra Cain Batgirl statue and quite a few Barbara ones, I would have been happy with either sketch making it as the finished product and I can see how folks can be unhappy with the whimsical pose and facial expresssion but it's still AH! so I'm good :)

Allison is Adam attending any Con's this year?

Evan

:lol Yeah I don't think anything is gonna change with Batgirl and honestly I don't want it to personally, cause I still like it. If enough people complain though, maybe DCD will avoid this style in the future, who knows. Even though I like the way this looks I'm not opposed to the more serious poses.

Many, many cons. And with the long awaited coffee table book coming out, he may be doing quite a few store signings as well. Adam's Con schedule right now is as follows:

January 30 - 31: Dallas Comic Con
March 12 - 14: Mega Con, Orlando
April 2 - 4: Wonder Con, San Fransisco
April 16 - 18: C2E2; Chicago
May 1st: Free Comic Book Day; Charlotte
May 15 - 16: Spring Con, Minnesota
June 4 - 6: Heroes Con, Charlotte
July 21 - 25: San Diego Comic Con International
Aug. 12 - 15: Star Wars Celebrations, Orlando (pending invitation)
Oct. 8 - 10: New York Comic Con

Adam will be sketching at all shows, with the exception of San Diego Comic Con. but we are hoping to arrive at Comic Con with a selection of pre-drawn pieces, like we did last year.

Any hope in the future for him attending Emerald City in Seattle again? I think it was there about 3 or 4 years back I saw him.

Thanks as well for the schedule and the coffee table book is highly anticipated!

Evan

I have to say that even though it is a very nice looking statue, the style and theme does not fit with the rest of the series.

If you display them together it is going to look very much out of place with the rest.

I'll still get it though. But I really wish they used the original submission.

We love Emerald City Con! It seems to coincide with Mega Con in Orlando, so we are on an alternating year schedule with them. We were there 3 years ago, and we were there last year. Schedule permitting, and provided they invite Adam, we hope to go again next year.

When it comes to licensor approval of something, are you guys not able to plead your case on why you think 'your' ideas should be produced instead of theirs?

Yeah I always thought Adam had the final say in what artwork gets used for the statues but I guess DC Direct does in the end.

From the pics you showed earlier, her face doesn't quite like the drawing Adam did, the one you have in your sig, but overall the statue is pretty good.

Is the outfit removable? :p

I like the Batgirl look actually, it reminds me of what a fun character she was. She only become "serious" once she became Oracle or Babs, but as Batgirl she certainly had a more fun side to her. I think the sketch that was submittted by Adam is very nice but I prefer what DC choose.

exactly.

i don't get this whole "the character is supposed to be oh-so-serious" insistence. to me, this depiction doesn't convey that babs is a "screw-up" or "goofball". maybe it's the tangled line and the slightly sheepish expression that makes her look less bad-a$$. but to me, that just says she's not taking herself so morbidly dead-serious. that's the playful, fun side to her. but she still can kick your a$$ in a heartbeat.

okay my initial reaction to this batgirl redition was in comparing it to the rest of the line up. However, looking at it without thinking in terms of placing it next to the other cover girls puts it in a different light. I am able to appreciate it for the stand alone that it is. I just love the colors:rotfl

I just received my Catwoman and she's amazing! :joy :rock The only small flaw is what looks like a little bit of white paint on her right leg but it's not too noticeable.

I thought there was going to be more of a gloss on her outfit but that can be fixed. :D I'm so happy I got her and she looks great with PG and WW.

Fun not old (as in 1950's) and ugly, to those that don't get it, it's the face that is causing most not to like this piece. It's not about her having fun or the pose.
