If you follow nothing but various news outlets, you'll see nothing but news.

The website is the worst of all. Third-party mobile clients are the only saving grace, but they're being limited severely in an attempt to kill them off. It doesn't matter who you follow, you're not getting news, you're getting 140 characters. Maybe a link to a news article. So it works as a notification system, great, that's the use I've always agreed with, a 1-way fountain, a centralized alternative to RSS. But centralized is a huge problem for many reasons, not the least of which is availability, or for that matter control by a company that has goals in complete opposition of its installed user base.

And because so many people and companies use it in different ways, without third-party clients and their features, it gets very difficult very quickly to control the amount of noise.

It makes for a bad social platform and suffers some of the same inane traps as more conventional sites, the building of contacts as a scoring system among them.

As a technology it's very easy to displace, the factor preventing someone coming in right now and cleaning them out is brand loyalty. But I suspect that's going to start on a downward trajectory once they really start cooking their monetization schemes.

I got out of it. Facebook, Twitter, Google+ etc.

Don't even get me started on Google+, i was forced into that ****e just to comment on Youtube, a completely unrelated site!!! And the comments on there are as bad as they ever were. In fact the official youtube video announcing the changes now has a comment section full of *****es (Edit: man parts, censored?) drawn from various symbols, and the top commenter is Adolf Hitler who refers to it as "Jewtube" I guess Google+ didn't solve much.

Facebook is the only one I can tolerate although FB themselves are also muppets and insist on changing things that aren't broken all of the time. I'm on there basically so I don't have to make an effort in the real world so much :rotfl It is actually quite good to keep up on various interests as well, I get some great military aviation pictures from there, my other interest.

I find it really funny that people are questioning the usefulness of twitter/Facebook while constantly monitoring a forum thread dedicated to reporting info from twitter/Facebook.

I've scored almost 1000 reward points by checking the Sideshow twitter/Facebook a few times a day over the past week. Usefulness more than confirmed for me.

And what does that say about the social platforms? People are monitoring the FORUM, not Twitter nor Facebook.

Twitter doesn't have keyword notifications nor filtered contact notifications. Even the best mobile clients lack timeline notifications, including per contact options. In terms of "following" Twitter kind of sucks - you have to manually glue yourself to it and refresh, refresh, refresh for the most part.

As a business owner (like so many others) I want to exploit Twitter and Facebook, but I don't want to engage nor waste my time with it. Right now, it's first and foremost a broadcast medium for me, to complement my RSS feed. Yes, I can receive replies from it, but those are going to be conversations best carried on in email. It sucks however, because as a creative person, I like to be passionate about my tools - Twitter I use only as a matter of necessity to cater to customers who are into it themselves.

Don't get me started, G+ has a name policy requiring you to use your real name or you will eventually be banned profile locked. :slap

Thank goodness my 1/6 figures comfort me from this social media insanity !!! :gah:

Speaking of 1/6, looking to score Mandarin but need a code today!

I don't think anybody said it isn't useful, just that we hate it! I'm happy some people use it though so they can report back to places like this and let the rest of us know.

Ahh man that is another thing I'm sick of, I use CCleaner every day to keep my high end PC clean, this results in me getting that real name rubbish from youtube constantly, Nobody wants their details on the internet, Google can't seem to fathom this. I used to love Youtube, now I tolerate it out of lack of realistic alternatives. I think it is clear Google hate us. I hope somebody creates an attractive alternative soon. The latest thing is the removal of videos containing gameplay, even if it is a few seconds in a 2hr video someone spend days making. They are just mad...

I've got over 2,000 points from ignoring FB & Twitter and checking this site :yess:

:nana:

Well thankfully some of us are on Twitter and FB.....

Personally I think FB is infinitely better than Twitter. But famous people only use Twitter for some reason.

Yup Google Youtube has lost their marbles, thats why I am downloading my favorite videos I think people may start removing the videos and stop making new videos.

Twitch.tv will be the new go-to place for let's plays and gameplay reviews as soon as they add the feature to upload prerecorded videos.
