Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other stuff that has nothing to do with codes

It helps too that Mandarin really is one of HT's most gorgeous figures.

It's truly one of their best. I can only imagine how many more Mandarins they would have sold if he had turned out to be an actual villain.

I have it and I love it, looks fantastic on my shelf. I'm also one of those people who picked up a pair of....what were they called, foo dogs or something? Looks great next to him in his chair.

Yeah--I imagine Hot Toys was pretty angry about that. Considering he's the equivalent of a peg warmer for them now, I imagine sales could have easily been double if he was a "real" bad guy. Still, HT's loss is, in this case, my gain.

Really, that 30% off coupon was just too much for me to deal with. I may just be putty in Sideshow's hands during Spooktacular if they offer some great deals.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other stuff that has nothing to do with codes

I'm so thankful I'm not an Iron Man completist. No interest in Hulkbuster for me. In fact the only armor I own is the Silver Centurion, and I might just stop there.

Speaking of oversized figures though, I really wish they had made a Destroyer. That thing would have had some serious shelf presence and it would have looked great with Iron Monger.

That's Funny, I was watching Thor with my son last night and was thinking the same thing, its big but not really any bigger than iron monger, would have been an awesome and not too difficult figure for them to make.

I guess if its ever used again (Thor 3?) then maybe they will produce it. Frost Giant would have been cool as well or dark elf

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other stuff that has nothing to do with codes

Just bought the Mandarin. Couldn't resist at such a deal. Does anyone know where can I get a pair of foo dogs?

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other stuff that has nothing to do with codes

I'm hoping it's only going to be $800, then coupon codes and reward pts, I am hoping will bring it down to something like $500. Even that is tough for me to swing, but then factor in a bunch of planned payments, it should be ok......but what about Ultron?!!

HB for $500? :lol

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other stuff that has nothing to do with codes

I know Mandarin is an excellent figure, one of HT's best...... But, why do you all buy him?

Is he iconic enough for you? Instantly recognizable by your family and friends? Was his performance THAT good? I'm not judging, I'd just like to know if it's just impulse buying for the hell of it, or just mad love for the character. I personally wouldn't get him even he was free. For reals. Well, I'd flip him like I did Angelica.

Thoughts?

Because Iron Man.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other stuff that has nothing to do with codes

I bought him used from another collector I think for about $160 a few months ago. 1. It's a fantastic looking figure. 2. I love Iron Man. 3. I actually really enjoyed "the flip" despite the fact that he was not the true villain in the movie. and 4. He looks awesome on my Iron Man shelf, along with Whiplash and Iron Monger.

Yeah, but does seeing him on your shelf do anything for ya? Like seeing the armors or iron monger?

Because there's a discount involved?...

I know, but would you get the Tonto figure even if it was offered for $100?

Now, if it's entirely for flipping purposes Id totally understand, hell, I'll buy 10. But for your personal collection?

He's fantastic looking, no doubt. And your reasons are actually fair enough. Although I believe every figure displayed next to monger is automatically overshadowed, lol.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other stuff that has nothing to do with codes

Well, I have Mark 42 and the Mechanic. I've always thought about getting the Mandarin though I didn't want to pay 200 for the figure despite how great he looks. So at 135 was not something I wanted to pass up.

Monger is arguably the most impressive 1/6 figure HT has ever made, he's is a league of his own imo. I can't compare Mandarin to any armors either, since they are basically mechs and he's a human. I put him in the same ballpark as Red Skull, Whiplash, Thor, Coulson, Fury, Hawkeye, Widow, etc and he holds his own quite well, if not better than most of them.

Nah, I don't do Figs. People love that they're getting a discount.
There's been a few in here who seem to be buying purely because they're reduced.

I'm very selective about what I buy now, little space and past impulse purchases have taught me not to jump in.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other stuff that has nothing to do with codes

I jumped on Mandarin with the deal because I had planned to get him eventually as part of my "great actors in 1/6" endevor. So I really bought it more for Ben Kingsley than I did for Iron Man 3. Helps that the figure looks pretty great.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other stuff that has nothing to do with codes

most people are buying them because they thought about it at full price but couldn't justify it, at these reduced prices its worth it to them. That's my reasoning at least. And there is much less risk involved if its a figure you are on the fence about. Some of these I paid full price for (Crow, Superman figures...) because I wanted the figures and have no intention to sell them, looking back of course I wish I waited. Mandarin wasn't a must have for me but for $135 its worth it and in a year if I decide I need the space for something better, I probably can break even or make a buck on him, at $200+ MSRP I was too concerned about losing money if I decided to sell him. Same with Mime, not a must have but at this price I don't think you can lose money down the road.

these figures are a mix of an actual toy and art which is why they have any value at all. some things are destine to go down in value, but these are almost an investment (note I said "almost"). How many people do you know that had to sell part of their collection for one reason or another and actually lost money while doing it?

Also, has it been confirmed that the Mandarin wasn't playing everyone and really is a criminal mastermind? Or that those rings could have power he didn't know about or be given power in a future movie? imagine what happens to the value of this figure if any of that were to happen.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other stuff that has nothing to do with codes

So I use my rp s to get a free ht vii bust. He was totally free I just paid shipping. Well they packed out my order and sent me a play arts figure, for free...that's really nice of then. I have no clue what vanquish is but it's still cool. I'm just glad it's not another angelica

Vanquish is a game from memory, remember seeing it in game stores for the PS3

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other stuff that has nothing to do with codes

For me, picking up the Mandarin was always in the back of my mind, but not for standard price. Just couldn't justify Trevor for $200+. But for $135 shipped? Trevor will look great on my villain shelf, pulling the wool over everyone's eyes.

To be clear, I would have preferred that he actually was the Mandarin, and if he was I would have bought the figure when it was first announced. The Trevor reveal made me wait until I could find a way to justify him on my shelf, and justify the price. But Kingsley's Trevor performance grows on you. I actually really like old Trevor. Everyone should watch the Marvel One-Shot devoted to him if you haven't seen it yet. Kingsley's great in it.

I have over 100 HT figures and I like to change up my display every few months. If I could I would display my entire collection of everything movie related (LOL). I liked Trevor S. as he was portrayed in the movie. I always wanted this figure, because of the great sculpt and overall look of his outfit. I have no attachment to the Comic book version of this character, but enjoyed the portrayal in the movie. So this was an easy purchase with the discount for me.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other stuff that has nothing to do with codes

100 figures?

Jesus. I only have about about 9 now and I feel bad.
