Except for all the people that didn't get the joke (and there were a LOT of them) that drowned SSC customer service. When there are 500 registered users on here, there could be 1600 other lurkers that aren't in on the joke.

I gotta say, for my first Spooktacular, I am beyond elated with it! I already but pretty much everything through SSC but now I have an extra $95 in rewards points and Star Spangled Cap coming my way! What a great company! I had a lot of fun this past week, lack of sleep and all!

We need a thread privacy plugin. Google will index everything and I can see how someone coming from the outside with a search for "sideshow code" will immediately see any post, code or not, and grab some random word and try it on their site.
It stil puzzles me to no end why anyone would call, on the phone, a customer support person about such a thing, but there are a lot of asshats out there. It was pretty clear in the content of the majority of messages that codes weren't being posted, but that people were just typing all sorts of nonsense in L33T type writing.

I feel like if people had the time to lurk around on these threads and try every false code, that's on them. The fact that they took it too far to go to SSC customer service shouldn't be held against the people who were just keeping this thread going throughout the entire week. There were opportunities to be notified via text or email of real codes, which never included the fake ones. Just my feelings though, I've been in here all week and it was always in good fun, nobody was ever telling somebody to try out this or that code if they weren't legit ones. The fake codes almost became like a hashtag to the event.

Well, looks like Spooktacular is done for this year. I want to thank all the guys who posted codes in here.
I started out with $41 in RP and pick up another $55 this week by going 10/13, including the $10 last one. Was tempted by the deals but there wasn't anything I really wanted. Congrats to those who were able to get stuff they wanted at crazy prices, I hope that can be me next year. I'll be coming back for more codes so keep posting you crazy nerf herders.

IMO, it's the same as someone having written, "Sideshow is the best and has the best employees" - then some stalker seeing that and calling them up to chat.

I could put my 2 cents in on this but you guys have basically made all the points I would make other than the fact these people were going to a third party to get codes insteaad of paying attention to Sideshows actual accounts and then phoning the company because they were duped by it. It;s not your fault or any member on this sites fault. I bet those same people are the people that get their credit card information stolen when Windows corporation calls them says their computer is infected.

Moving the thread to the premium forum is an idea, but kind of punishing a lot of long standing members who don't have a premium account for whatever reason. Are there other suitable forums here that are members-only? Is Sandbox open for all to view?

I'm sorry that SSC got inundated with calls today from people too stupid to live, but I really don't see a way this event wouldn't have happened. No one can predict how forum conversation will upset lurkers, how do we even begin to judge what conversation topics or what jokes are going to drive someone to the point of calling a business to complain about fake codes? And how many of those complaints were people who just missed the real codes and got upset enough to call anyways?
