Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings

Then the solution isn't this. It's to have an invite-only thread. Then these people can miss out on the fake codes AND the real codes that other members who are devoting real time to post at the risk of insult (as in the previous message). Maybe said people can either stay away from such promotions or seek the codes themselves from Twitter or Facebook.

Wow, this is REALLY insulting.

No, it really isn't.

Dude, you are incredibly touchy. First a rant about American atrocities in an action figure thread (!) and now you're indignant because tricking people with fake codes caused Sideshow some customer service problems, so you want to take your ball and go home. Jesus.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings

The only problem with that theory is even when it was posted on twitter the problems SS was having and it got back here people were still doing it. It was a
big joke. People need to start taking responsibility and owning up for their actions, not pawning it off on others. It didn't bother me as much as others. But when it became aware to people it was causing a problem with SS...it should have stopped.

I agree, it should have stopped after we heard SS having problems because of it.

I don't know, I guess I'm not as upset, I think I may have even tried a few fake codes to enter, didn't really feel like I was slighted or anything, just went back and re-read the code and realized the joke. I feel like there's so much negativity and secrecy on other forums in different hobbies, that it was refreshing to see people who wanted to share codes and discounts while not being forced to by anyone. I think the generosity by people here should definitely over shadow the fake code debacle. Nothing here was promised, people went out of their way to put the codes out here when they just as easily could have said "screw them, if they want it they can find it themselves".

The thing is, I don't believe it. What's more likely is that people were posting expired codes. That's the simple answer and likely the one with more truth. behind it. What this thread did, was bring thousands of dollars worth of sales to Sideshow, just from the members posting, let alone those who didn't or those who are yet to make purchases due to assistance from this thread.

This reaction and the repeated insults I see are making me seriously reconsider how to handle this situation in the future. I have no problem participating in a similar thread in private.

Omg! AND you're the guy who was texting all of us. You, sir, are freaking awesome. :clap:clap:clap

I loved all the videos of brave souls singing to win their prizes. I'd shrivel up and die if I had to do that.

I agree with that.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings

Because if u want real codes check Twitter or Facebook or sideshow toy.com. Those are the outlets SSC uses. They don't post here then there They post there and that's it for that kinda stuff. ssc fans and members of this forum post here. Quit being lazy and do the work. I was on the email list but I also have friends, friends I made here , whom also pulled together and watched things and messaged each other when things appeared. It's a reward code. Not an I deserve it and my life is to hard and I'm lazy code

It all made it more fun for me. I had fun entering the contests and am glad I was able to help people get rewards points. I figured if I was staying awake to get them, I might as well pass them along :duff

That's fine you can believe what you want but, wasn't it posted on twitter by SS that fake codes were causing the problem with SS customer service? And didn't Dave just post about coming after the people that posted fake codes?

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings

It's pretty obvious to the folks who have followed this thread literally all week straight, refreshing the page every few minutes, that the fake codes were fake. But not everyone did that. Some people--with jobs, families, other reasons they didn't have time to refresh a website a thousand times over the course of five straight days and nights--would just stop in, I assume for a few minutes, look at whatever posts mentioned codes, and try them on the Sideshow site. Unless a person was actively following the thread conversations, or the fake codes they came across were blatantly fake, they might not even realize that any fake codes were being posted at all. They would see "latest code!" in someone's posting and that's as far as they would read. And when they tried it on Sideshow's site it wouldn't work, and they would assume that it was supposed to work. I'm not sure why so many of the people who posted fake codes can't grasp that. Not everyone has been religiously following this thread all week, so they wouldn't get any of the context of what was going on, they would just be looking at raw information. I don't think they were calling Sideshow to complain about people posting fake codes--I think they called Sideshow because they honestly didn't understand why the "codes" didn't work.

And how would they even know that a blatantly fake code was supposed to be fake? Just because a code is humorous in some way, that doesn't mean it's impossible for Sideshow to have used it, as far as a newbie knows. Unless you've been following the real codes all week you wouldn't know what Sideshow's "style" was with these codes. So as far as some newbie is concerned, maybe a humorous sounding code could be real too?

I think "No Posting Fake Codes Please, No Matter How Obvious" would be a simple solution to the problem going forward, and I don't think it would be a huge sacrifice to make. There are other ways to liven up a thread besides posting fake codes.

This falls apart as soon as "busy family job person" picked up their phone and waited for customer service and bitched about fake codes. That took more time than any "oh wait, people are laughing about that code" scan of the page would have ever taken.

I'm not indignant with respect to the codes, but I am to your reaction and your continued insults, both passive and overt - directed at a large number of posters, not only myself. And I don't want to take my ball and go home, I'd just prefer that if you don't like it, then you should consider leaving (the thread). You're riding someone else's coat tails and you're getting upset that they're not taxiing you to your preferred destination. That's some serious entitlement.

Frankly, this is precisely the same as the people posting on Facebook and Twitter insulting and complaining to Sideshow about the discounts they were and weren't offering. You're being given a gift here. Just as they post on Facebook and Twitter, no complaining, no sniveling and no whining.

The "fake codes" as some people call them were not only obvious, but are meant in every case to be obvious. Usually with a disclaimer attached. After Chicky mentioned that they had received calls, it wasn't indicated that these calls were somehow flooding their CS, any "fake codes" only became more obvious and disclaimers more prominent. But like you said, some people are too busy to check this out for themselves, so I wouldn't expect them to know.

Geez, let's not make a big deal out of this! Maybe next time lets keep the joke codes to a minimum of one or two per day. No need to hide the thread in a members only section, just to joke around.

I think the vast majority of us are very, very appreciative of this thread and the emails, texts, posts, etc that a handful of people were nice enough to offer up.

:goodpost:

Which makes more sense:

A. Busy family job person should use FB/Twitter for codes?

B. Busy family job person wastes their valuable time trying to power scan a 15,000+ post evolving thread that moves a mile a minute searching for codes and contributing nothing in the process?

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings

Weren't the vast majority of the fake codes always labeled "blah blah blah" is not a valid code? I don't remember seeing many that were stand alone.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings

Could someone fill me in on this fake code fiasco thing? Sideshow went after people in this thread? Haven't been on as much today.

That was my point as well. So much quicker to go scan 3 accounts on twitter and facebook.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings

Its sad that those who did something wrong, per Darklord Dave ( the person in charge here ) , can't just own what they did and realize it was wrong. Posting fake codes serves no purpose. If those who posted fake codes were looking for a laugh and looking to be entertained at the expense of others, then what was the purpose of all the supposed help this thread was supoose to offer?

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings

Another thing I think might be helpful is to make sure everyone who sees the thread immediately realizes that all of these codes can be found either in Sideshow e-mails, on Sideshow's Facebook page, or on Sideshow's twitter feed. That would cut down on the number of people who are just cruising the thread for codes and not conversation. Maybe some kind of banner in the subject line or something.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings

I think our behavior was out of line. This thread was setup to help people out with codes for Spooktacular. It wasn't just us looking for codes, it was lots of other people. This is a website viewable to anyone in the world and owned by an individual. We should respect Dave's wishes and rules for how he wants to run the website. I can admit to being wrong instead of defending my actions and saying it is my right to troll a thread that was setup to help people out like some others are doing.
