Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings

Yeah congrats on the win, Riggs! I knew yours was one of the ones to beat. I am pretty disappointed my Thanos didn't place. I put a lot of time into it, but I'm also surprised the predator got nothing. The Smaug was a really well done entry. The wonder woman surprised me as a win. No big deal though, I had a blast making my inbred Thanos :)

Definitely let us know what you decide to get! So much good stuff for $350!

Awesome Thanos man

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings

I really dug your Thanos. I thought you and several others were up there. I honestly thought the Pred was the one to beat. Completely honored mine was chosen. I spent a good hour with my mouth on the floor. I've been staring at potential prizes but I think I'm more confused about what to get now than I was before. lol

Predator and yours were pretty ridiculous!! Sick good!!!!

Awesome Thanos man

Thanks! It's kind of an inbred version of Thanos but I was happy with it. The thing is almost the size of my head!

Hah, I bet. If it were me I'd be eyeing the Captain America 2-pack with Steve Rogers. Too bad the Rocket/Groot 2-pack is just over $350. I'm sure you can't go wrong though! Just take the most expensive thing already on your PO list closest to $350 and save yourself some money!

About the predator, I have a feeling it didn't win because you couldn't really tell there was candy in it. At least I couldn't. Looked like modeled clay. Still, it was really well done.

I love that you chose Clay Face. He is my favorite batman villain and you really nailed the animated series look!

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings

Invitations to the private thread will go out once I get the gold foil embossing finished and the envelopes are back from the printer.

Good night!

Sounds like a formal sit-down, backed up with security. Anybody who squeals to Sideshow about fake codes not working gets to sleep with the fishes.

Thanks for your work, PP and cofphoto!

And to everyone else involved in code hunting and code delivering!

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings

That is entirely a possibility. The fake codes (fakegate) ;) were of course started in good fun while people were passing time (totally understandable and was all innocently started). It's unfortunate that fun can turn sour though. Unfortunately, having our CS department flooded with folks inquiring about fake codes causes issues (even more so when there are other customers trying to get through with all sorts of other inquires but can't and so on). Fakegate wasn't malicious of course it's just unfortunate that good fun ended up having a very bad side effect that those just having fun didn't intend. As such, having our CS bogged down due to an unfortunate situation will cause us to evaluate the future. Should we offer these kinds of codes in the future or not? Is the potential problematic side effects (that even we didn't foresee possible) minimal enough to still offer this kind of incentive or is it too much of an issue? Nothing is decided yes or no right now of course, so reward point codes may still happen in the future. It's possible they won't either.

-SideshowAlex

I don't see how anyone could strike up the nerve to contact you guys and complain about faux codes not working. It's up there with complaining to CS that you missed the deadline for entering expired codes.

Okay, so you saw a code on a forum and you took a second or two to plug it in only to find it isn't real. Okay, it isn't valid. Move on. Why complain to you guys? For the sheer amount of playful fake codes being posted by people (myself included) as we passed time, it should have been common sense which ones were fake and which ones were real. If I got hit up with complaints during a free promotion from overzealous, ungrateful customers, I'd cease the promotion.

You know what they say, you give an inch, they take a mile.

Anyway, I had a good time and appreciate the amount of free rewards that I was given. Thanks Sideshow.

So posting fake codes wasn't just annoying it may affect future promotions.

THANKS GUYS

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings

Thank you Sideshow for running Spooktacular each year and giving away, essentially, free money (cue '89 Joker pic).

Thank you to the members (both premium and not) who contributed to this thread and helped others to get codes. You guys know who you are and I won't call you each out as I know how humble you are :p

Regarding this whole fakegate business. Yeah I got caught on one fake code. Went back and pretty quickly realised what it was and laughed it off. I can't conceive of the self entitlement that leads to someone calling up a company to complain they didn't get their free money which never existed in the first place. This is a forum and people worked near 24/7 to help others out in not missing codes and posting product discounts for everyone who reads it's. Forgive them for passing some of the time by amusing themselves.

I wanted to comment on two of the supposed solutions.

1. Take the thread to premium only. Looking at the number of non-premium members posting, this would be a loss to the community. I'm not premium but I'd like to think that by participating in threads, posting pictures of products and any news I might find that I add to the forum overall. Premium isn't attractive to me as an international member as I don't sell and rarely buy due to international shipping issues. Sure I watched this thread fairly closely the last couple of days but if I had to pay $25USD I would have been at $0 from the codes I successfully redeemed. I know the forum needs money to survive and premium freaks get good benefits, especially if they are active in the commerce section, but non-premium freaks also add a lot and without us the community would be much smaller. Maybe some more freaks would switch to premium to participate but a lot of others will look to other forums for the same thing (heck even blu-ray.com was running a thread on codes - nowhere near as good as this one) and some of those time poorer freaks might just stay at that new forum instead of posting here which would be a loss to us all.

2. Start a code only thread with no other posts. This seems attractive, but it would only serve to make sideshow really tight with future codes. This is supposed to be fun and have people work a little bit to get the rewards. Make it just a list that anyone can go to and that disappears. The level of SS involvement in this forum is amazing, but if the forum actively undermines the point of these promotions, then we all lose.

Personally I think the solution is people stop being self entitled jerks, but that's not going to happen any time soon.

Again thank you Sideshow, thank you fellow freaks. The points I did score will go to a future purchase (Darth Vader PF is the plan) and I'll be sure to post pics and add my comments on that as well.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings

Hello everyone,
I'm a longtime lurker, first-time poster. I've been following this thread religiously for the better part of a year now (two Spooks and everything in between) and I figured a show of gratitude to those who lost time and sleep to keep the rest of us moochers informed is due. So, Pixelpiper, Shawn, Collectorcol and everyone else who put time and effort into this: Thank you! You guys are a class act. And If I were much of a forum-savvy I'd place the smiley with the two guys clinking their beer mugs together right here. Cheers!

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings

Thanks all for a great week. I kick around on a few other forums but nowhere else have I found a community as passionate as this one.

I'm glad that I could get involved and have some fun with you all this year, maybe next year I will be able to even more active. I'm seriously considering premium membership despite the fact I don't sell stuff.

Even though "Fakegate" tempered the festivities somewhat, it's been a learning experience for this board and for Sideshow. Hopefully a positive one that will make next year even better, whether there are codes or not.

To the Sideshow crew:

Thank you for being such a great company and providing these events for your customers and fans. You don't have to and I really appreciate that you do it.

To the Freaks:

I know I thanked you earlier but I really can't express enough gratitude to Cof, Pixel, Nick, Col, DiFabio, Jedi, Wor-Gar, The Mike's sig pic and everyone else who I've chatted with this week, especially those who have worked damn hard to keep this thread updated AND provided email and text updates.

Seriously, you guys rock so hard! :rock

Bring on 12 Days and Spook 2015!

Hi Alex. :wave

:lol

I think Melko and the others should step up - nominate yourselves as the 2015 Spooktacular Code Crew!

You'll all be responsible for a posting an up-to-date and accurate code-only thread; managing a mass email code notification system as soon as codes are released 24/7; and managing a mass group text message code notification system as soon as codes are released 24/7.

No fun, all business, and we all know who to blame if something goes wrong. :wave
I volunteer!

Invitations to the private thread will go out once I get the gold foil embossing finished and the envelopes are back from the printer.

Good night!
Thanks Pip. Don't forget the silk ribbon and ivory seal. :lecture

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings

I volunteer!

:lol That settles it! We have our 4 member 2015 Spook Code Crew ready to go! Melkorjunior, Uncle Rigo, Nintenjoe & Intruder04 :yess: :wink1:

As others have stated, big thanks to all the Freaks who roasted their retinas staring at their computer monitors hunting for codes!

Night Watch represented 2014 Spook! :rock

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings

Thanks for Spooktacular Sideshow!

An extra thanks goes out to all the freaks helping send out the codes!

Lastly, sorry if any fake code I put out caused trouble. I thought all were pretty obvious and I think I always put "not a real code" in the post. I stopped once it was reported that people were calling CS.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings

I really don't see what's all the fuss about fake codes. I mean, come on, it's Halloween. It's RP trick or treat!

From one atheist to another, keep the lack of faith! :duff

I'll admit it, I posted 0UTT4T1M3 for a free DeLorean. But if you thought that was a legitimate code, for a yet-to-be-released $700 high-end collectible, I don't know what to tell you. Sorry?

A big thank you to Chicky, Alex and everyone else at Sideshow for their hard work entertaining all of us during this holiday season. None of us are entitled to prizes or rewards points, but they did all of it anyway.

And thanks to everyone who made Spooktacular spectacular. Pixel, Shawn, CollectorCol and Nick took time out of their days to help us all. You guys :rock I was happy to tag along at the last minute and help e-mail codes to members.

Hope to do it all again next year!

Us atheists should stick together! :1-1:

You put in a lot of hours keeping watch. You'll probably need to sleep for a week now. :lol

I feel like I need to sleep for the rest of the day but the post-Spook buzz hasn't died off yet. I still feel I ought to be monitoring Facebook and Twitter... just in case.

Indeed we should. :duff It's pretty easy being an atheist outside of NYC, but to be an atheist in the Middle East? That's commitment, brother!

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings

I think a thing to consider is people not complaining about fake codes but wondering why codes weren't working... as if there was issues with Sideshow's system.

And no I wasn't one of the people that complained to them.

I am on the side that the fake codes were dumb. The professionals and folks with hectic lives had to weed out the childish nonsense.

And now due to that childish nature Spook might not continue as normal. Again I think Sideshow was bombarded with calls about codes not working and not about people posting fake codes. If they were called with people whining about fake codes being posted then that's... Well wish I could be surprised but I had a guy ask me if heroin was a street drug and tell me that it couldn't be because he bought it "at some dude's house."

Also yes to the people that posted true codes- thanks. Very helpful.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings

Hey - whoever posted the fake codes - I'm coming for you...

:panic:
atomic-bomb-o.gif
:panic:

We need a thread privacy plugin. Google will index everything and I can see how someone coming from the outside with a search for "sideshow code" will immediately see any post, code or not, and grab some random word and try it on their site.

It stil puzzles me to no end why anyone would call, on the phone, a customer support person about such a thing, but there are a lot of asshats out there. It was pretty clear in the content of the majority of messages that codes weren't being posted, but that people were just typing all sorts of nonsense in L33T type writing.

I think next year needs to be done differently with regards to privacy. I think you and Cofphoto did and excellent job and it was appreciated. :duff

I have a feeling there will be no codes next year. If I was Sideshow and got inindated with calls I'd say a big see ya to them next year.

I wouldn't blame them for not handing out codes next year either.

That is entirely a possibility. The fake codes (fakegate) ;) were of course started in good fun while people were passing time (totally understandable and was all innocently started).
