Just so everyone is clear and stops arguing and speculating….Free reward point codes belong in events that make the most sense…IE: Spooktacular. Although 12 Days had this incentive for one year only (yes, last year…one year only) it doesn't really fit with what that event is specifically/mainly about, which is…new product announcements, teases, and product giveaways. A very minor secondary part of the event would be product deals (but this secondary part of the event exists all year round, so it's not truly unique to this event only. Sure if there were larger discounts being doled out that would be something different but the discounts during 12 Days are the same as Spooktacular or even less in nature. Bigger discounts will always be given out at appropriate events such as Black Friday Week and Spooktacular). Also, not having them in 12 Days this year is NOT because of what occurred during Spooktacular, so I want to squash that speculation right now.

Monthly $20 postcard codes are still happening into 2015 (or longer)
There will be opportunities at other codes in the future as well through emails or otherwise
Spooktacular 2015 will more than likely have free reward codes again since that's the event in which it works best

So hopefully people can come together now, stop the speculation and arguing. It is the holidays after all.

You write it on the codes entry page and if someone calls you tell them on the phone. "We're sorry, web codes are an online promotion only, we don't handle codes over the phone. If a code isn't working it's not valid."



I don't believe for a second they were flooded with calls due to fake codes. I don't even believe they were flooded with calls related to codes. One man's flood is another man's puddle.

It's not about $20 or however much value in codes is given out, it's about the promotional period, the goodwill, the mindshare, the brand awareness. They can try to make up for these in other ways, but there's no denying that a lot of people were interested in the code concept.

Hey, they can keep recycling the same discounts on the same peg-warmers for every single special event, pretty soon however, there's nothing special about it.

Ok... So you think they were lying about the volume of calls? You think they would just throw away a program that everyone loves and has been going on because one or two CS reps whined a little? That makes no sense.

If there wasn't a significant nuisance and therefore detraction from the ability of the CS department to do their job, it wouldn't have been mentioned. One man's flood is another man's puddle, but you're the man who has no actual idea on the amount of water we're talking about.

And as for having a simple policy of telling people they don't deal with online codes, sure, great, but it still takes time away from the reps dealing with real CS calls. They made a value judgment on what is more important to their business functioning well. Ultimately sideshow knows more about their business and how to run it effectively than the armchair CEO's in this thread. People love to often point out how much better they think they could handle sideshow, and how bad they are doing because of QC issues, or code issues, or rehashing characters or whatever, but fact of the matter is sideshow is thriving and expanding.

I didn't accuse anyone of lying. I just happen to think the word you were using, "flood" is a gross misrepresentation and that it had no bearing on whether or not codes would be part of this promotion. At least the second part has been confirmed, again I might add, by Sideshow.

They made a value judgment on what is more important to their business functioning well.

How many times does someone from Sideshow have to say that you're barking up the wrong tree?

With regards to how to run Sideshow, again, you're making assumptions. What people, myself included, have said, is that it's a decision that will impact our purchasing decisions - negatively. Sideshow may be thriving, but the loss of a sale (or a number of sales) can't be spun into a positive. I'm not sure why this topic tends to turn into an argument every time.

I'm kind of done spinning my wheels on this. Anyway, I have to go brine a 20lb Turkey for Thursday. It's going to be smoked (apple wood)/roasted @325-350 on the new Big Joe - brine and seasoning recipes courtesy of Chuck Hughes.

Well I certainly didn't mean to stir all that up...

I will say that 12 Days last year was my first foray into the craziness of promo codes. For all of $60 in rewards it had me tethered to my phone for all that time reading every tweet, FB post and email. And I know a lot of the folks on here were the same way. What other advertising method has people chomping at the bit for so little?

Seems weird for SS not to take advantage of that again but I'm just an outsider looking in. I'm sure they know what they're doing.

I prefer reward codes over giveaways, that's for sure.

I know a huge chunk will be through twitter either through pictures or videos, which is super meh to me.

Oh well. If I get a Ripley preorder, i'll be happy.

I loved all the RP codes during spook but I'm spending time with family (as opposed to working during spook) so I'm glad to not have to be checking the phone and scrambling to enter a code. Looking forward to the new TIE Pilot photos and Vader and Ben. I'm thinking this week is the week.

Spook was my first foray into the RP codes. I'll be flat out honest. I likely wouldnt have bought a thing without them. Up until that point I had gotten some great deals from ebay and forum members. They're definitely an incentive. Anyway, glad to hear they're not completely off the table in the future. At least we can settle down a little now. lol

I'm spending this week and weekend with family....which was exactly why I was hoping for RP codes.
