Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings C3L3BR4T3 $20 off

will there be any RP codes similar to spooktacular during 12 days of sideshow?

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings C3L3BR4T3 $20 off

I forgot where it was originally posted so I thought maybe it would be best to ask here since most people check this thread. Someone recommended a long while ago this turntable Trumpeter Battery Operated Round Mirrored Display Turntable for Model Kits New | eBay to display or photo/video review figures. I'm not sure if it's just mine but it has a sort of wobble to it and was wondering if that was the case with all of them and if there was a fix? Thanks in advance!

^From Alex "unlikely", no confirmation its from Spook fiasco but i would bet on it.

Well, IMO, that's a pretty rotten response to some overblown BS if it's the case. This thread drove thousands of dollars in sales to their web site during Spook, let alone over the course of the entire past year.

Sideshow is free to do what it wants, but like many others, I've already cut back on purchases from them and things are only going to get tighter going forward.

Overblown BS. People were CALLING THEIR OFFICE complaining about $5 codes not working. A $5 code... Are you kidding me? If I was them I sure as hell wouldn’t give out codes again either.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings C3L3BR4T3 $20 off

I'm not surprised. Way to many complainers on this thread. Also to many inexperienced collectors who can't understand discounts and then can't understand their not entitled to anything

It was overblown here in the forum. And even IF they had 3, 4 or 10 people call… Yeah, it sucks, but to let that affect your promotional strategy? GMAFB. Do you work for Sony?

Let's put it into an idiom: It's called throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

When the bean counters run their spreadsheets maybe they'll be left scratching their heads as to why the numbers are the way they are.

If we're not going to see real codes this year, I hope at least we'll see some very creative fake codes and plenty of them.

I like to think of it as one bad apple spoils the bunch. I think it sucks that they won’t give out codes but I understand it 100%. Sometimes jerks ruin things for everyone. Maybe next time (if there is a next time) we will police ourselves a little better and it won’t happen again. Put the blame where it belongs…. on the idiots complaining not on Sideshow.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings C3L3BR4T3 $20 off

I think you both are correct. The complainers are the ones who definitely CHOSE to call sideshow and ruin the experience. Not to rehash codegate (Which I fully participated in), but the ones that were posted clearly were readable and would never be used by sideshow (ex. L00tCR4T3 or BUTTS0u4). Either way, I don't know of a way we can police people who call and complain. The codes were pretty fun to pass time while we were all waiting. I know I'm not alone in saying I enjoyed all the codes people posted. If a legit code came out, it was posted on facebook, twitter, email, etc. and quickly posted multiple times here.

The only solution to this is to have an exclusive thread where we all pitch in and make sure the codes are shared. I appreciate the fun of spooktacular and purchased A LOT of figs due to the RPs. I do agree with Darth Madden in that I understand why they may not do it anymore. However, it increased sales as well as brought a lot of joy to most of us (minus those entitled, boring, cranky few whom I won't call out).

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings C3L3BR4T3 $20 off

The thing is people would have trouble with legit codes also, especially where SS would use the number zero in place of the letter "O" or 1 instead of the small case "l" etc. :dunno

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings C3L3BR4T3 $20 off

True, there were plenty of complaints about the official code lettering too. Going forward I think regulating the fake codes better here and SS making the official codes more clear there would go a long way in solving the issue. Just my two cents.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings C3L3BR4T3 $20 off

Sure, I blame the idiots that called customer service. Why would you ever need to call customer service about anything? This isn't 1980. But it's up to Sideshow to roll with it or stumble on it. Seems like they may choose to fall.

Simple Sideshow policy: NO customer service calls about codes. Why on earth a policy like that isn't in place at all times boggles my mind.

Another thing. When creating a code system, you should make an equivalency table in your database so that people don't get pissed off because you thought it was funny to use a ZERO instead of an O in your secret word. Example: o=0=O
i=I=l=L=1

It definitely limits the number of unique combinations that are possible, but it's a sane solution. This is what (at least some) provinces and states do for license plates too in case anyone was wondering.

At the end of the day, who gets hurt? IMO, it's Sideshow. Their sales numbers are going to reflect their choices. Customers will just buy from somewhere else if they so choose.

How does one impose this "NO customer service calls about codes" policy, Pixelpiper?

You can't stop someone from calling and the problem wasn't the fact that people called, the problem was that their resources were wasted fielded the calls. It's not rising or falling, it's just a business decision - they decided that the time (and therefore money) taken AWAY from the company by having their CS department flooded with nonsense calls outweighed the benefit of the extra orders or website hits they gained from doing promo codes.

I also don't think the appearance or disappearance of a total of $20-30 in codes is going to be the tipping scale in swaying the purchase choices of any significant number of people.

You write it on the codes entry page and if someone calls you tell them on the phone. "We're sorry, web codes are an online promotion only, we don't handle codes over the phone. If a code isn't working it's not valid."

the time (and therefore money) taken AWAY from the company by having their CS department flooded with nonsense calls

I don't believe for a second they were flooded with calls due to fake codes. I don't even believe they were flooded with calls related to codes. One man's flood is another man's puddle.

It's not about $20 or however much value in codes is given out, it's about the promotional period, the goodwill, the mindshare, the brand awareness. They can try to make up for these in other ways, but there's no denying that a lot of people were interested in the code concept.

Hey, they can keep recycling the same discounts on the same peg-warmers for every single special event, pretty soon however, there's nothing special about it.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings C3L3BR4T3 $20 off

I bought figures because of their 30% off sales + extra rewards + free shipping... not because I got 5 or 6 $5 codes.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings C3L3BR4T3 $20 off

Sideshow's sales are going to be just fine. Getting free reward points is nice but people like me will order from them regardless--and I'm pretty sure I'm doing a good job helping them meet whatever quota for sales they may have. :lol

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings C3L3BR4T3 $20 off

If we don't get anymore codes I will certainly miss them.
$250 worth in a year was a great incentive to order direct.

You bought overstock items, which is great, it helps clear out space for new inventory. Monthly codes and reward points help drive the sales of pre-orders and new merchandise. This isn't rocket science, everyone does it,even if it's in slightly different ways. I have a number of good friends high up in CPG (consumer packaged goods) and we chat about this kind of crap all the time. You wouldn't believe the returns on some promotional efforts you might find silly, beneath you or a waste of time.
