Here are some pics of my recently completely custom build-up of the Wolf Predator Bio Mask.
I always liked the design of this bio and while I didnt dislike the movie enough to rule out having any of its collectibles, I also didnt want to pay the prices that the SS piece was going for on ebay. So I set out to make my own representation. This allowed me to address 3 concerns that I personally had with the SS piece, its lackluster paint, its lack of see through lenses, and its simplistic base.
All I had to start with was the blank white casting (I even had to drill out its solid eyes and laser light assembly so that I could add my lenses and lights). From there I painted it up with 8 layers of different metal paints, patinas, metalizers, washes and glosses. Everything used was metallic bases so as to give the piece a "real" multi-layered and weathered look to it in person. I then put in some polarized lenses with metal mesh overlay, a new laser array with lighting, and a ceramic magnet on the back for mounting.
For the stand, I wanted to do something unique. Using two of the blades not only gave me an opportunity to show a weapon exclusive to AVP but also has a dual effect as the Predators "dreds" while achieving the tribal-type display that I wanted (fitting for a predator). At least that was my intent!
The two blades are smaller versions (bought off ebay) and the stand is my own construction with pins for the blades ( so you can display with or without them), and magnetic center rod. I was orginaly planning on a dual desk/wall stand, but the logistics were getting kind of crazy (with the blades), so I stuck with wall mount only for the time being. I also had another design that incorporated a laser mine and two plasma cannons, but that is for another day/project...
These pics show you the progression of the mask through all 8 layers of painting, it's base and various angles of the completed mask on display. I'm no photographer , but I hope that the pictures do a fair job. (more pics in post 2!)
