This section of the board hasn't really intended as I'd first invisioned it. I'd thought people would post their individual figures rather than having a single thread for everything they're working on. But it's fine this way.

But it did raise a couple of questions - would it be better served to just have a seperate true gallery, with nothing but pics and then a forum for How-to, etc.?

Also looking around the web, there are a few different types of 1/6th sites, but none devoted to just 1/6th customizing. There's some on MWD (Men With Dolls) and on One Sixth Warrior, but no where where it all comes together. Would a seperate forum just for customizing - be it 1/6th or Tonner, be of interest?

Most definitely, yes.

I toy with the idea of one day doing some customs, and even though there is much encouragement, have failed to complete any, well two, that I have started. So the 'How to' section would be a real benefit to the whole 1/6th, and bigger, community, as well as me. I foresee many posts interfering, as members acclaim threads and posts alike. So I would like to see stickies, locked from members, and posted to, by moderators, copying and pasting, only the most relevant items to a particular sticky thread.

This sort of section, would indeed, be frequented by lurkers, and would draw in new specialty talented members, as they register to post their works, ideas, and skills.

It would be really nice to have a gallery just for figures, a how-to section, maybe a place to highlight particular customizers . . . it could be pretty fantastic if you get it done well. That would be a really special site and would add to the quality of this place.

Actually what I meant in the 2nd part of the question was a completely different forum than Sideshow Freaks. One that would cross over into all aspects of mixed media customizing. The old ladies making clothes for their Tonners would probably have some great ideas on stitching up superhero costumes.

+1 to separate galleries from customizing discussion. I love hearing how the customizers work their craft, but it's hard wading through all the pictures and :rock's

edit: oh, separate forum altogether? sounds interesting, and I'd be in (much to everyone's dismay), but I'd be just as happy with one gallery forum and one discussion forum on SSF

I just think it's an exceptional idea, if you can make it happen. You must be a glutton for punishment Dave.

I love the idea! I think it would lend itself to showing off more of the work than this forum really has room for.... And things are rapidly expanding over time now. It started with just Mikey and has bloomed to now a whole community in itself. Lots of new guys and smaller threads just get buried under my thread, Mike's thread, Les' thread and Darren's thread...

I'm sure that if we had a forum that was seperate it would allow for more threads and more information that could be shared and enjoyed by everyone that visited. I'm down Dave!

And if you need any help, be it Mod work or anything... don't hesitate to ask. :duff

I've gotten more into the customizing/kitbashing side of the hobby in recent months, so I'd love to see a whole new forum where we could exchange tips and tricks, have dedicated galleries, discuss the best places to get kitbash fodder, all that good stuff.

Something to think about: It'd be cool to have user profiles to include info like current projects, available for commissions, links to gallery, etc.

A devoted 1/6th customization forum would be awesome. Dave, if you can make it happen, please do it.

I don't think a true gallery of just pictures of customs would work without the How-To to go with it. To see a figure and then have to go to another thread/forum to read the how-to would be confusing and force the user to click back and forth to view the image against the tips. That is, if I'm understanding you correctly.

Plus who would want to post a picture somewhere without being able to get feedback on it? A dedicated picture thread wouldn't get much attention. Everyone here likes to read the feedback.

I thought the Show Your Shelves section was for people just posting their pics of figures...while this section was for custom work?

Show your Shelves is for pics of your collection. A dedicated custom Gallery would be just for customs. And there could be pics in the how-to threads, but there would also be a place people could go if they just wanted to look at new customs. Perhaps with a link to the thread talking about it.

I like the idea and I think it would by its nature attract talented individuals who often deserve a bit of the spotlight. (My talent involves opening a box and putting a statue on the shelf.) It is interesting to see the work of some of the very talented customizers and I think that a special area for them to share and communicate would be attractive to some who might not otherwise get involved in some of our discussions. I guess that a completely different website would be a big project, but if there is enough potential to warrant a sister site, then it would be worth it.

Do customizers really want to do "how to" stuff? I mean isn't their general intent to get business for themselves and not divulge their secrets? I think a customizing forum would rock, but I think it would be more for customizers to get business more than to present tutorials on stuff. I really don't know though, just thinking out loud.
