Alter Ego Comics has now dropped their price to $250 also so I?m planning to order from there. This will be my first Damtoys figure but I?ve always heard great things about the Gangster Kingdom line going back to Clipper King days

Wow does Damtoys have some great tailors. The quality of the accessories (minus the cat) and the clothing is the best part of these two releases.

What can we expect from the final product? The prototype looks like the best Godfather figure I've seen so far, but the final product will be softer, so how much will it drop in quality?

Look on eBay for loose DAM sculpts. Most of them are military figures, but they're all pretty good. They've also done some Assassin's Creed figures, you can see pics in the Video Games sub-forum. Probably the closest comparison is their Fassbender head, which is a movie likeness, and it turned out very nice.

There's also conversation about it in the original thread

I like this version a lot more than the Formal one for some reason. Love the accessories, and a nice idea for the swappable stand parts.

They seem to be above Chief Toys, and on the same level as Asmus Toys, Threezero, and maybe Blitzway.

You might be surprised to find out that most of these figures are made in the same places. There are only a handful of factories that are capable of doing this kind of work. The differences we see in the end product are just in how closely the production managers keep the workers in line, and what kind of quality they're willing to accept.

I do get a kick out of you putting Asmus, Threezero and Blitzway at the same level. Big Chief has been doing really nice work lately.

Threezero's Rambo was pretty good, but pretty much everything else from them is below average. Asmus is okay. I'd say Blitzway is above average. If we're talking licensed figure manufacturers, my ranking goes like this

Hot Toys
DAM/Blitzway
Big Chief
Asmus
Sideshow
Threezero
Star Ace

The headsculpt for the formal is the same which I like + extra sculpt.
I didn't think this would be as popular as it is which is awesome!

I really feel like the license is in the right hands with this..... let's hope for a Sonny and Luca!

let's hope for a Sonny and Luca!

I was thinking about that this morning.

If the license includes it, which I highly doubt, would I really buy a $300 Sonny or Hagan?? (Obviously, I'd buy a Michael)

And yes ... yes, I think I would.

I think this Golden Years version is a real test. If it sells well enough, it might give DAM enough steam to go after the likeness rights of some of the others. I have no idea how complicated the licensing is, but I've seen a few things over the past few years that I never thought I'd see, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I wasn't in when this formal version was announced, but the casual version has piqued my interest. I'm now in for both and any future figures (fingers crossed).
