And Roy, to answer your question.. My major is going to be History. I am going to try to either get work at a Museum or teach. :rock

Awesome. I hate to see you squander your intellect away at an office job (like I am doing now). :lol

Thats great Josh, you should be a teacher, that way you can mold young minds into the ways of the Kurgan teachings!!!!

And maybe show a few female students the Finger Of Doom:naughty, depending on what grade you would teach of course:monkey3

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

You might teach? Dude that's AWESOME!!! I've got a year left before I'm actually in the schools teaching and it's been fantastic the whole way through. If you do go into it then I have to say you'll love it. It's the greatest choice I've made. Congrats and good luck in school!

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Why must you be so selfish? I mean, come on, we need your painting skills.:D In all seriousness, teaching is not a bad thing to get into especially with the two weeks off after Christmas (and Summers too). Although the kids can get to you every once in a while.

Good Luck!

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Thanks for all of the support guys. I've been needing to do this for a long time, just hadn't had the chance to make it happen. I'm really looking forward to it. History has always been a long time love of mine, I look forward to learning more and eventually sharing that knowledge with others.

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Good luck Josh, I finished college a couple years ago and couldn't wait to be done. I'm glad for what I learned in my art classes, but I never had the type of mind to absorb and enjoy subjects I had no interest in, which was everything else haha. Hope it works well for ya, I have a lot of respect for people that pursue paths like this against the odds.

:rock on dude!

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Good Luck Josh! Teaching is an awesome profession. I love it! The chance to share your knowledge on your subject and other just normal life things is something I truly cherish. I almost got my Ed Degree in History but went with Business Ed so I can take my degree to the business field if I so choose. Again, good luck and great choice on a profession. :duff

I lay this down not to upset but to make you think a bit more. Most degrees are worthless now. I grew up with the notion that graduating from a University with a bachelors of something is infinitely better than not...well that's just plain bull. As a person who has been there and done that and is quite frankly a little bit jaded at the world and it's crappy politics, I say choose the "right" degree. In the end you have to do it for the right reasons but you also have to live with yourself and the time you may have "wasted"

Learning is obviously never a waste but the money you dump into the deep pockets of the already stinkingly rich Deans and administrators is, especially when you don't get a fiscal return on your investment. You know how people are always saying "if only I knew what I know now then" well I am telling you now- get an accounting degree or something profitable and usable. I know a lot of students starting out have the romantic notion that the major they have chosen is the best thing for them and money isn't all that important in the end....well it is. With a better job you can have more time off to do the things you want, like be with your family and more money to live comfortably.

The soapbox is now clear. Anyone else care to take the podium?:D

I just re-read my post and wanted to add, I really didn't mean to imply that getting a degree in history or any other field is a waste of your time or effort. What I was saying just to keep beating the point to death is that, if I could go back I would choose to do things differently I think.

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

I see your point Rory... But for me.. A desk job is what I am getting away from now, any degree that deals with numbers like accounting or business would be death to me... simply because I struggle so much with Math. Hence my checkbook. :lol

It has taken me around 8 years to decide on a topic of study, many instances of flip flopping back and forth from subject to subject and I'll tell you why I went this route. I was originally going to go for Graphic Design, but the competitiveness of the field and the amount of GD grads who do not get work really worried me... Especially now that I am starting to try and start a family. Art was my passion and I attempted many times to go that way, but something told me that it would not work out.

The way I see it, I will always have my art. I can still pursue a career artistically, I will continue to create figures and still bring my portfolio to conventions and hope to one day get Sideshow to just hire me already.. ;)

But for now, this path seems right to me.. And I think that I can make this work and do good things with that degree. But then again that's just me.

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Well Josh congrats on the choice of college. Welcome to Hell :lol I'll have to get you Spike before you cut off the repaint work. Also, any news on my Obi Wan?

Yeah, I am the same way. I hate math too. I just wanted to lay out another opinion for you in this thread. I think you are doing the right thing because if you do actually choose a career you hate just for the money your happiness and life satisfaction will be at risk.

So I congratulate you on deciding and going through with this plan because you know what- that really is the hardest part. Here is to you Josh. :duff

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Choose what you like and love. Money is nice but it isn't everything. I'd rather be a Teacher and broke than a CEO with all the money but all the troubles that go with it. I dont look as Teaching as a job but a passion. I do understand though what Rory is saying and to a certain extent I agree with him.

Anywho congrats Josh!!

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Congrats on going to College Josh! And from someone who's been in higher education since 1996 :)monkey3) let me say it has its ups and downs, but as long as you pursue something you like thats all that really matters.

Also, be open to new things... could be History seems the best option now, but you never know. I started in graphic design and ended up a psychologist :lol
