I don't even have words for how good that Anakin is. It's just amazing. I wish my Anakin looked like that.

It can look that good. PM Hunky, you won't regret it. :wave

Re: hunky_artist's artistic creations!

Hey Hunky!! Just Curious, I know that this whole damn world has gone $tar War$ crazy :google [and you made it even a better place with showing how the sculpts should have been] but.... have you ever considered or done any other 1:6 head resculpts [Aragorn doesn't count]? Have you ever considered redoing the Dragon sculpt Steiner into Derek Flint? <hint, hint>

Re: hunky_artist's artistic creations!

I've considered doing LOTS of different sculpts, lol (I'm just getting started at this) so different ones will get done as time goes on... I have no idea about this 'Dragon Steiner' or who Derek Flint is.......... lol, tell me!

Derek Flint was played by James Coburn in the James Bond "spoof" films Our Man Flint and In Like Flint. Coburn also played Steiner in the 1977 WWII film Cross of Iron . Dragon released a figure of Steiner with a Coburn likeness.

I'd gladly supply the Steiner head if you thought you could do it!!

The Steiner figure is a great looking figure. I sold mine last year. Doh! I regret doing so now.

Re: hunky_artist's artistic creations!

I could only find some small crappy pics online... dont suppose you have/could take/could point me to some decent large pics of that Steiner head? I could let you know then whether it was doable easy enough or not :)

EDIT: ignore that... for some reason the pic about wasnt showing when i read the thread, ok let me have a look at it.....

Re: hunky_artist's artistic creations!

Used to have the Steiner! Ahh!
Well....hope you get this one resolved Ironman.

Darren, trust this one.
A good James Coburn could be SO many great characters! Derek Flint, that cool knife throwing bro in The Mag 7, so many more!
He made a great pool playing movie, The Baltimore Bullet, that I always quote, where his character was this master pool player, and his underling thought he had beaten Coburn's character in a game, and old Coburn says "I taught you everything you know. But, I didn't teach you everything I know!" And he commences to kick the young one's a$$.
Always loved that.

Coburn ruled! I'd buy that head!

Re: hunky_artist's artistic creations!

I've also wondered about this head. The DML Steiner figure pops up on eBay from time to time, but it always goes for a steep price.

I'd add to Les' list of memorable Coburn performances his character in "The Great Escape." I will avoid the spoiler that will be obvious to all who know the film. Those who don't know the film...go rent it. McQueen, Bronson, Coburn, Attenborough...great, great film.

I'd be very interested in any version of Coburn you can extract from the Dragon head.

Re: hunky_artist's artistic creations!

hmm... interesting. I didn't think there'd be any interest in a young James Coburn. Not beyond the three of you anyway....

"The Great Escape" was loaded with great actors! Steve McQueen sort of stole the show as Virgil Hilts, aka "The Cooler King", but Coburn's role as an Aussie airman was also a memorable one. (Btw, they were both students of Bruce Lee back then!) Coburn used some of his "martial arts" training in the Derek Flint movies. Extremely cool! :rotfl

H.A.,

I'd definitely be down for a (younger) James Coburn head sculpt. I believe I still have 2 or 3 Steiners in deep storage, but I won't be able to get at 'em until July! I doubt you want to wait that long, but if nobody's able to provide one for you to work on before then, let me know!

Toys McCoy did a whole series of McQueen figures several years ago, but there's still plenty of room for a really fine head sculpt of him, too! What are the chances of that happening?:D

I appreciate that, and I may take you up on that if I need to. As for waiting till July, with the workload I have at the moment, I may HAVE to wait that long :lol

If it's up to me I'd be sculpting everybody in every film ever.... lol. We'll see... It depends what I get around to doing, and how many people are interested.

Re: hunky_artist's artistic creations!

I just finished a commission for someone else from another forum. a 7" Star Trek resculpt. But instead of making a figure better, this time it was to turn one figure into a completely different one. It started out as this figure......

and he wanted it to look like this figure.......

and here's the final result (after resculpting, casting and painting)

There are loads more pics, and a talk-through of the whole process on my blog below :)

Re: hunky_artist's artistic creations!

Thanks Spidey... despite the smaller scale, I actually like it (although it would have been better if it was bigger, lol, man it's hard to get a decent likeness at that scale)

And ironman... of course I don't mind :)

right..... everybody this is a sneak peek. It's halfway through... so don't anybody be saying "this part is wrong" or "that looks unfinished"

That's because it is unfinished, lol. I just thought I'd take a couple of pics while I was waiting for something to dry

How it started.......

...and where it's up to so far.....

Re: hunky_artist's artistic creations!

PM sent re Legolas. What are you using to strip the production paint?

Before the Coburn-McQueen-Great Escape detour ends, I thought I'd clutter up the thread with more obscure facts: McQueen and Coburn were both pallbearers at Bruce Lee's burial in Seattle. I lived there at the time and remember seeing a photograph of them in the paper.

We now return to our regularly scheduled program:

Re: hunky_artist's artistic creations!

Spidey... you are, thanks! lol

Gruff... I didn't strip the paint, I made a silicone mold and made a resin cast. That's what I'm working on. (that way if I royally mess it up I've always got a starting point to go back to)

So far I've:

  • reshaped the chin.... about a hundred times
  • ....and the jawline
  • ...and his cheeks/cheekbones
  • and his upper lip
  • i've made his nose smaller (why do all SS figures have such oversized noses?)
  • I've changed the shape of his forehead, and moved his hairline
  • changed and angle and placement of his eyebrows
  • added some extra wisps of hair behind his ears

....and I've just cut off both his ears, lol. They stuck out way too far so I wanted them flatter against his head. I'm working on that as we speak.

Let's hope it all works out eh? lol

Re: hunky_artist's artistic creations!

I would have bought him if he would have looked like the movie version, but I passed he looks so much older. Yours looks really good.
