Polystone
Polystone is the common name for Polyethylene, just another plastic. But there are two main types, High and Low Density. High density is used for the figurines. Polystone offers good resistance to moisture, impact, heat, sunlight, cold and has good rigidity. I mean good compared to PVC. Everything here is compared to PVC.

Polystone distorts of about 80 degrees Celsius. It is not that ductile, lighter than water, and can be moulded, machined, and joined together using welding (difficult to glue). It’s a thermoplastic as well, meaning it can be heated and reshaped and cooled. This is easy to mould and rather durable. The higher heat resistance and rigidity also means figurines do not lean or distort, or worse, start degrading in sunlight. But for this added quality, polystone figurines are more expensive than PVC ones and the selection is a lot less.

Unlike PVC which is more ductile, Polystone does BREAK because of the higher rigidity. So shipping overseas is a bit more of a risk for these. Use EMS at all costs.

And yes, it’s also known as polyethene, the plastic bag. So people who have been fooled by the fancy name, please hang your head in shame.

I'll disagree that polystone is "lighter than water". I don't think I own a single statue that would float.

Do not confuse polystone with resin. The problem is that many times companies use term polystone instead of resin because of the sound of it. And it seems there are different types of polystone and resin too.

Polystone is created by adding a 'stone powder' to resin.

Polystone = Poly (plastic resin) + Stone (stone powder). The weight, density, strength, etc.. are all affected by how much 'stone' you add to the 'poly'. Saying that Polystone is just another plastic, is like saying cement and concrete are the same thing. Concrete is a mixture of cement and stone. Cement is just the 'glue' that holds the stones together in concrete.

One's polystone may not equal another's polystone. It all depends on how much of each you mix. Regardless, there's not much of it in the Vader 1:1. Lot's of plastics and fiberglass.

Man .. plastic bag .. that hurts a lot, I will never look at my polystone collectibles the same anymore :lol

As long as we like our Vader bust (and the other statues) I think it is enough despite all these terms and names they use.

The head feels almost like a lightweight PVC product. The only thing that adds any weight to it at all is the black pieces around the neck, which are probably polystone.

The helmet feels like fiberglass and sounds like fiberglass when tapped. While it is pretty heavy, I think it's hollow cast.

:exactly: :goodpost:

The helm is most definately fiberglass.

Just been told they can't replace mine for 4 to 6 weeks! ffs :(
