OT Helmet > this Bust

To me, it's 2 different mind sets of what you want out of the product. If you feel a helmet would be better than a bust, then the helmet's all you care for and the rest of the piece is a waste. If you want the helmet and a full package, then a bust is the way to go.

I want both of them: a more accurate bust and an OT helmet. A more accurate bust than this we won't be able to get unless custom made by skilled fans like Gino (and keeping the head of Shaw which is much better than any custom I've seen). An OT helmet will be released by eFx one day - can't wait.

Anyway I'm going to display this bust with the helmet on, as I already said before in this thread. I love the Shaw head, it is an awesome sculpt, but for me Vader is not Anakin Skywalker, he is DARTH VADER

I imagine I will mostly display Vader with the full helmet, but having the portrait (to me) helps cover almost all aspects of the OT Vader.

Hmmm... maybe I should also get a MR saber replica. It would look pretty tight having that displayed in front of him.

This would be considered a ROTJ bust correct?

Or you could get a MR Force FX Vader saber which is cheaper, and display it vertically on sides. I'm thinking of doing that myself, even if until today we only got ANH and ESB Force FX Vader lightsabers - I have both and also vertical stands for them.

Or if you don't want to spend money on FX sabers or expensive MR prop sabers wait a bit for the eFX Stunt Costume Sabers

in keeping with the "Vader 12 inch helmet controversy"... has the height of this Vader's helmet to mask ratio come into question? i watched it being removed and replaced and it always struck me as sitting very high (check my photo... the gold "latches" are visible)...

What's the different between the efx Stunt sabers and the MR 1:1 LE sabers? Other than price.

At least I should have a chance to get the ROTJ Luke 1:1 I alwys wanted and missed out on with MR.

I actually already have the ESB Vader FX saber, which would be a possibility... but having an unignited in front of him would be a bit cool IMO.

Didn't know about the EFX Stunt hilts though, may see about getting one of those. Have they announced a Vader version?

I think there were images were it sits lower... also I think being able to see some of the gold dohickeys is a price we'll have to pay for it being so detailed. I don't think those were typically part of screen worn full masks... although I may be totally wrong on that.

I think its the materials... resin vs metal.

Resin paited to look like metal? Interesting, for $100 it'd be a great score, but I'd be worried about the paint job not holding up, we'll see I guess.

That I don't know... the images looked like metal, so maybe vaccu-forming to get the chrome appearance?

It doesn't really matter to me, same as with this Vader bust, all I care about with any collectible is the long term integrity. Polystone, plastic, resin, rubber, foam, latex, fiberglass, whatever the production materials, as long as the choice ensures a long lasting product, that's my concern. I don't want authentic puppet materials if the thing decays after 10 years, or authentic finish if the paint flakes away after 10 years, I want a piece that looks great and lasts, I'll sacrifice a little bit of appearance or authenticity to have longevity.

Dusty responded to the thread asking about a neck piece...

It is true that the stand for the Vader mask is not finalized yet, I'll pass this thread along! No guarantees, as they will have to figure out production costs, etc, but the least I can do is make your request known :duff

Thanks Dusty :duff

Well, looks like this one will have to be a long term goal for me :(

This is just amazing, but as a student I can't be dropping this kind of money... And even if I sold off some stuff I'd have to get rid of things I wouldn't want to. For now i'm satisfied with the MR Vader SE helmet. But there a couple PF's and Comiquettes I'd like to get in the meantime (venom and yoda) :)

Re: Darth Vader life-size Bust

I wasn't going to post any critique/comments as I didn't want people to think that I have an axe to grind (which I genuinely don't). Not to mention, when I posted in the 1:6 vader thread, I upset a lot of people even thought that was not my intention.

If you are looking for something that is authentic to what was used on set for the film, then this piece is not for you. MANY aspects are off, or just plain wrong.

I agree with this whole heartedly for this particular piece. I saw this up close and personal at SDCC and IMHO, it really didn't look so good. If I'm going to be spending that amount of money, I'm sure I could get something that is a better representation. No offense to SSC, I love alot of their stuff, but this one clearly falls short for the price tag.

As for the 12" Vader, with the smaller price tag, being mass produced, and on a very small scale, I understand that things cannot, nor will they ever be, like the movie version and I am completely happy and overjoyed with mine :)

That said, to those who get the life size bust, congrats, it is a great purchase indeed!

Yeah, the helmet part of the bust looks a bit toyish.

Aren't these two statements a complete contradiction
