Well, I was referring more on the scale, the dome and the top part of the face mask. I've been looking at it a lot lately and the bust just looks mispositioned. The big head on samll shoulders (when the mask and dome are on), the dome is again misshapen. And from what I can tell so far, the bust is not 1:1 scale, it's slightly smaller. And you can really tell that the scale is off with the Shaw portrait in place. I noticed this when I watched that SS sales guy give the presentation of it, and if you look at his head and the Vader Busts' head, his head is 1 size bigger than the Shaw portrait and about as big as with the mask and dome in place.
And then theres this other problem. Lets just take the Grievous Bust for example. It's like they do an overall great job on a particular piece and then they add an element (plastic ears) which somewhat ruins it! IMO I think it's hurting their products when they do this. Now I know they said the Vader Bust has fiber glass elements but I can't help but think that the dome and top mask are made of hard unpainted plastic.
I know all these are nitpicks but for something that cost this much I would think they would really step it up and make it feel more like "maquette/replica" style bust. The portrait does look nice but I think with a lot of sideshows products we're getting, whe're paying for the toy aspect of a piece rather than the artistic value. But I guess they don't call them Sideshow Toy for nothing, right?
I think the Vader bust looks great but at maquette prices, I'm not interested in paying that much for something that is innacurate. I'd honestly would rather have the Master Replicas helmet. But, all that said I might be intested in buying it if it's able to be found for eight or nine hundred bucks laterer on down the road. Then, it would be worth it.
I think your going to be pretty hard pressed to find one of these bad boys for $800 MIB anytime after they release. Look at the maul bust. That thing was half the price of vader at only $600 and no where near as iconic or wanted by SW fans but a few years after its release, the only one on ebay right now is selling for $1500.
And btw, the darth maul 1:1 scale IS just as iconic IMO.
Indeed. I'd wager if you could do a survey, Maul's in the top 3 highest selling characters from Star Wars and one of Sideshow's best 1:1's in the Star Wars line mixed with his low ES makes for high sales after market.
First off, that bust that your taslking about is set at a "buy it now" price and nobody goes by that, they go by what the bid ends at. If you look at the other TWO bust on there now that are bids, you'll see that they won't reach that high of a price. Even if they were mint.
Second, we're talking a price difference of $600. Unless the Vader bust has a very low ES of like three or four hundred, then I am almost sure this bust is going to drop in price and be a around for a good while. And btw, the darth maul 1:1 scale IS just as iconic IMO.
I held off on this as well. I am interested in what eFX does with the OT helmet they have coming up in the next few years.
I'm sure efx will come up with something cool but I really don't think another company is going to make a ROTJ reveal helmet after SS has made this.
It goes against reason as you run the risk that the majority of the fans have already bought the SS one.

This is SS's first armoured bust, I'm betting that there's more than profit at stake here. Sideshow's pride and reputation are at stake here.
Another thing that would have sealed the deal would have been acrylic eyes. It works sooo well on the Arnold T-800 1:1 bust that it should be a GIVEN for this high profile bust.
I am sure it will be a VERY nice piece, but I wouldn't put any claims of Sideshow going all out as a matter of pride and reputation with acrylic eyes missing from this piece.
