That is pretty awesome. Looks like we're getting a full batman plus DC universe and not some bull sheet Nolan teasing.

Jared Leto finally opens up about playing The Joker in 'Suicide Squad' - Batman News

Jared Leto opens up about playing The Joker in Suicide Squad for the very first time.

“I was just thinking that the Joker would probably just say, ‘***** you,’ and hang up,” Leto joked as he began his phone interview with Empire. It’s been widely reported that Leto stayed in character as the Joker 24/7.

“There was definitely a period of…detachment,” Leto explains. “I took a pretty deep dive. But this was a unique opportunity and I couldn’t imagine doing it another way. It was fun, playing those psychological games. But at the same time it was very painful, like giving birth out of my prick hole.”

Leto would call his co-star Jim Parrack, who plays Joker henchman Jonny Frost, and order him to do things like spray paint roses black or fill up a backpack with nine inch nails.

While in character, Leto said he listened to 1920s gospel music and read literature on shamans. “I always get the sense that The Joker may be much older than people think. It’s something different. If you don’t break rules, you’re not going to strike new ground. I think I’ll be cooling down for the rest of my life,” he explained.

Suicide Squad producer Charles Roven also chimed in on Leto’s new take on The Joker, and said that his outfit was inspired by Mexican cartels. According to Roven, he’s “more social…a very successful and smart businessman besides being a sociopath.”

Finally, director David Ayer explained how Jared Leto’s Joker will be different than the others we’ve seen before. “The Joker is the third rail of comic book movies. There’s a power to that character, and by some freaking miracle, through the incredible things Jared has done and the photography and all the other millions of things that went into it, we’ve cooked up something transcendent. He’s scary.”

It's basically just him after changing straitjacket to leather coat.
Definintely not some "ultimate design" for this new version of the character.

"More social…a very successful and smart businessman besides being a sociopath.”

I do like that description of this Joker.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

I'm going to wait for the performance. I never thought there would be anyone who could out-Bond or at least rival Sean Connery and along comes Daniel Craig who provides a completely different spin. DC had two choices -- retire the cinematic Joker or recast and reinterpret. I recall when everyone was like WTF when "pretty boy" Ledger was announced. He didn't look like the Joker. Where was the thin face, pointy chin and Joker smile? And then the skin wasn't going to be actually white, but makeup? I remember thinking, hmmm, that might be interesting. And now Ledger is considered by many, if not most, to be the best Joker ever put to screen. That's why I'm saying these are tough shoes to fill. Everyone is thinking it can't be done... Leto is miscast... The look is wrong... the tattoos are ridiculous. So director, star and studio have to wade through that just as they did with TDK. It may be a disaster or it may have folks jumping up in down in their seats, who knows. But right now there is enough being shown to have piqued my interest and excitement. So I'm definitely looking forward to this one.

How long you think it will take for a kid to kill himself after seeing SS and the movie being blamed?

I say same day as opening night. :lol

"More social…a very successful and smart businessman besides being a sociopath.

I do like that description of this Joker.

It makes it more comic-booky because many villains there were part of the criminal society.
At the same time it helps to ground such characters and make them feel less cartoonish.

How long you think it will take for a kid to kill himself after seeing Terminator or RoboCop and movies being blamed?
I say same day as opening night. lol
Fixed.
