Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

Any wagers on if SS is rated higher or lower than BvS......
I'm guessing higher, based on a few things:

1) Fury was a really good movie. I think Ayer is a superior storyteller to Snyder in many ways.

2) The dark and brooding tone is totally appropriate for the subject matter and characters here. No one should blink an eye at these characters being presented in this way.

3) Despite the dark tone, the trailers make this movie seem pretty exciting and different in some respects. With characters like Harley and Joker, it doesn't seem humorless like Batman V. Superman appeared in trailers (handful of one-liners to the side).

But we'll see! From the get-go I was way more excited about this one. And that holds based on the reviews thus far from Batman V. Superman.

Agreed on everything. Ayer is a better director, but I'd say that Snyder is a better comic book director, at least visually. And that's just because he's got more experience I recon. We'll know for sure when SS comes out. I do hope that Affleck is the solo director on the Batman film though.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

Yeah, I get what you're saying regarding Snyder vs. Ayer. Ayer has a much grittier, more realistic style. But again, I think that works well for something like Suicide Squad. I've made a lot of complaints against Snyder over the years, but one thing I do definitely give him credit for is that he has a great stylistic vision for films. And he can do the dramatic, 300-type action very well, even if it sometimes goes overboard (though that may be the whole point from his POV).

People will love or hate Let's Joker, but Margot Robbie will come out of this universally praised.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

What's funny is that I really don't like Robbie in the role so far... but LOVE the choice of Leto and his performance.

So I guess I'll be posting same thing in the "unpopular movie opinions" thread four months from now. :lol

:lol You never know...

I have warmed to the idea of Leto's Joker as we've seen more trailers and whatnot. He does appear to be more like the comic Joker than Ledger was.

But again, I just saw Fury a couple of weeks back, and was so pleasantly surprised that I think I'm going to be giving Ayer a heavy benefit of the doubt here on a lot of levels.

Why am I not surprised, from the guy who hates the Nolan movies but loves cheesy DTV action movies :lol

Yea I have no doubt this flick will rock. It just looks like too much fun. And has a good director!

His actions are definitely WAY more like comic book Joker. People are too fixated on how he looks, so far.

I love BBegins and half the stuff from TDK.
Was actually blown away by TDK during the first viewing.

Your icon tells it all- Ahnold as Freeze..move on move on. I thought B&R was fun because all it is is a 1997 take on 1966 Batman! People don't get it....

Tatoos mostly, and I cannot disagree. Heck, I wouldn't complain at all if they weren't so terribly lame looking. :D
Love the "griils" tho, makes him visually unique.

Totally agree with you. Hell, I was taken aback the first time I saw it. It is pretty jarring when you see something you totally don't expect. But hopefully his performance will either make folks forget pre-existing expectations, or even embrace the changes that he brings.

Yeah, I'll admit... When I first saw Clay's portrait of Leto's Joker (which was just a day or two before it was officially released) my first reaction was, "WTF??" then I just sat back and waited for the predictable reaction online. :lol

This one:

But I do think many will warm up to him and he'll have a big following. But some are sure to hate it. We'll see.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

I like that his look is different from the others. We've already had 3 Jokers that were mostly faithful to the character and all were portrayed by good actors. I'm sure Leto will be no different.

I hope HT offers up his purple shirt and holsters look. I think he would look super sharp on the shelf.
