Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

Barry Sonnenfeld is, at least, an extremely accomplished and acclaimed cinematographer. WB, he should take over the DC-verse.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

People keep carrying on about the "CG zombies" in Suicide Squad. Why? They weren't CG. They were dudes in costume. Only thing that was CG was when they'd show a close-up of someone's pulsating head or when their heads got crushed by a Squad member.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

and they weren't zombies either. :lol

millennials too distracted by the music to actually pay attention. I think that's the case here Khev.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

Not that it mattered. They were just useless fodder for the good guys and weren't much of a visual focus. But the point is they were made into these wacky monster creatures as part of the effort to PG-ify the movie, where your protagonists could wipe them out en masse without any moral reservations or making the audience potentially dislike them as a result. Mission accomplished.

BTW, Kalibak was voiced by Worf in DCAU. :yess:
I noticed! Some fantastic voice casting there.

I'm sure that was another strategy by the producers, to distract from all the things that were so bad about the film by giving the audience another form of shiny, colorful lights to figuratively stare at. Good point.

I don't think Ayer was worried about the audience potentially disliking the moral ambiguity of the Squad's actions but yes of course they had to have the bad guys be indiscriminate drones in order to have them blown away en masse with a PG-13 rating and I think they worked within their limitations quite well. Since a hard R apparently wasn't an option I appreciated being able to see them cutting through the bad guys onscreen instead of having to endure a million cutaways.

Even the best films are subject to give and take in that regard. The MPAA wouldn't allow FOTR a PG-13 rating unless the orcs' blood was black instead of red and Jackson was only allowed to have Lurtz lose an arm and his head as long as no blood spurted out of the wounds. It's just the nature of the beast when making films of a certain scale meant to reach a certain audience.

There is no greater death in cinema than Spock in WOK, and i'm not even a trekkie.

Maybe when Cap dies it will achieve that status.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

I actually liked that those "drones" weren't just some things from another dimention for heroes to blow away thoughtlessly but brainwashed/mutated civilians, policemen and military. It added a lot to the "bad guys" tone of the film but was poorly implemented overall.

Based on what criteria? I can think of quite a few movie deaths that had more impact for a variety of reasons. Ellie in Up, Jenny in Forrest Gump, Giovanni Ribisi in Saving Private Ryan, in addition to the main characters in films like Million Dollar Baby, The Green Mile, etc. Even in sci-fi Spock gets trumped by Uncle Bob in T2 and Han in TFA.

T2 comes 2nd for me then Frodo's farewell in ROTK takes the 3rd spot.

Lump in my throat those 3 are. :lol

I vote Spock.

It helps that I was a kid and had watched Trek reruns my whole life. I think if I saw TFA at the same age it would have had a similar impact.

Don't give a **** about Uncle Bob.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

Nothing beats King Kong's death in terms of sadness.
John Coffey's execution is very close tho.

It's a great scene but the way he was reintroduced in "The Motionless Picture" before that and then brought back in "The Search for Spock" ruined it for me. :dunno

well, this is correct, thats why they added like 40 different songs randomly whether they fit or not. they definitely knew what they were doing with this.
distract everyone with flashy editing and fun crazy fonts and fun catchy songs :lecture :exactly:

ZaCHw117 is more right than he knows lol. the movie made so much money because everyone was distracted by the fun music lol
