I think he's a great artist, credit where it's due. He's just ridiculously overexposed and hyped. And as a creator/designer, well. . .sometimes pictures speak 1,000 words:[/b]
you're kidding right? he did his thing back in the day, pretty much retired, went to art college and relearned how to draw from scratch & came back
you can't even compare his 90's work to the DC work. it's night and day
it happened
Really?? This is the first I'm hearing of this. I know he sold WildStorm to DC, and wanted to re-focus more on the drawing side of comics than the publishing side (now he is co-publisher of DC, funny how that worked out
)...but I never knew he went back to school to relearn to draw. His style has probably evolved slightly since the 90s, but nothing drastic enough to suggest relearning from scratch. Where'd he go?
I'm a fan of Jim Lee's style. It's a little exaggerated, but there is no denying his mastery of the fundamentals (anatomy, perspective, draftmanship) supporting it all. I never get the impression that there is something he's afraid to draw...some artists will try to hide artistic problems they can't solve with a shadow, an awkward layout or general sketchiness. When I look at Lee's panels, I'm never confused by exactly what is going on.
