Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!
Checking in:
I do not remember a more hectic Preview Night. Attendees were let in ten minutes late, and inside it seemed as busy as any regular day, even though there's only supposed to be about 15,000 people on the convention room floor (as opposed to the 50-75,000 that would be there today, tomorrow, Saturday, Sunday). I went by the DC Collectibles area of the DC booth four times last night, and every time I saw Kevin Kiniry, he was busy talking to someone...for what seemed like forever Ordinarily I would just wait to talk to him, but since I didn't come here alone, Mrs. Griffin and I would go to see something else (Sideshow has some amazing stuff this year, for example), and then come back. At one point Kevin was talking with one guy and there were two other people waiting around to talk to him. We went to another part of the floor, then came back. The fourth time we stopped by, he was gone. By then, three hours had almost passed and Preview Night was over.
This morning, I didn't even think I would be able to get to the panel, because they didn't open up the doors until fifteen minutes after they were supposed to, and then it was another fifteen minutes to get inside with the hordes of people who had amassed around a small number of doors for what is actually quite a large convention center. Finally I got upstairs and to the panel room. Got a seat in the front and waited for the panel to begin. The panel started and they talked about DC Bombshells, they talked about Gotham City Garage, they talked about Harley Quinn Black, White, and Red, they talked at length about their "Artists Alley" vinyl series (I'm sure it has another name, but I can't remember), they talked about DC Cover Girls, they talked about the Animated Series Line (the Joker Mobile can seat four figures "or two and one tied up in the back," nothing else you guys don't already know), then they talked about DC Essentials and showed a video showing the extensive range of movement (basically this is what everyone wanted Icons to be, although it's going to be all Rebirth looks for the foreseeable future) and at the 49 minute mark they finally got to the Q&A, which was immediately capped at one person, as the SDCC people told the DC people they only had a fifty minute panel (they had a full hour on the printed and online schedule). I forget the one question that got asked, but it was not relevant to the topic of this thread.
I moved toward the back and walked toward the door, and there was Kevin Kiniry. Considering they were being hurried out, and Kevin would still have to pack up stuff (he had brought in a box of statues and figures that they were planning to give away to people who asked questions), I did not want to bombard him with questions. He would be very busy momentarily packing up and presumably arguing with the Con people about their lost ten minutes, so I asked him one. To be honest, I wanted to ask him what they were going to do with all the stuff he'd brought to give away now that the panel was cut short, but I asked Batfan08's question about the Gray Ghost, as I had a personal affinity for the late great Adam West.
Kevin's answer "Gray Ghost is currently not planned but we talk about him a lot."
Sorry, guys. That was the best I could do given the way things have been running since last night. If I get another chance to talk to Kevin or Jim over the next couple of days, I'll try to ask more questions, but the DC booth is even busier with signings and appearances and product unboxings than usual, this year, so I'm not counting on it.
