Green Lantern: New Guardians

newguardians.gif

This is Kyle's title right?

It looks like it is going to break down like this:

Kyle - Green Lantern: New Guardians
John & Guy - Green Lantern Corps
Hal & ??? - Green Lantern.

There is supposedly a new GL of 2814 joining Hal, bets are riding on it being either Sinestro or a somehow resurrected Abin Sur. With Arkillo on the cover of GL:NG it's odds that Sin is getting a rejuvenation into the side of good. Johns has been doing that since he came on, forgiving him for his past crimes.

Green Lantern Corps #1

man of all the re designs made, why is it that Guy gets to keep is horrid looking outdated design. i mean they went to some extremes with some designs that were fine ( not that im complaining about them) but come on Guy needed a cool design change ,hell even stuwart needs one, give them some cool suits.

I always hated the way Guy looks, its a weird design in a sea of slick suits, i dont mean for them to kick his whole design out, just make it more modern in some ways, like at least redo that damn ugly jacket and belt, give him a coat instead...

anyway GL corp is the first issue cover to not hit the mark for me in terms of redesign... for me Guy would have been my first redesign , so many ways to make him look cooler

So far my pull list looks like:

JUSTICE LEAGUE #1
GREEN LANTERN #1
GREEN LANTERN CORPS #1
GREEN LANTERN: NEW GUARDIANS #1
RED LANTERNS #1
BATMAN AND ROBIN #1
BATGIRL #1

Out of sheer curiosity I will pick up the first issues of:

RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS #1
DEATHSTROKE #1
SUICIDE SQUAD #1
TEEN TITANS #1
LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES #1
LEGION LOST #1
JUSTICE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL #1
AQUAMAN #1
THE FLASH #1
ACTION COMICS #1
SUPERMAN #1
SUPERBOY #1
SUPERGIRL #1
BATMAN #1
DETECTIVE COMICS #1
BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT #1
NIGHTWING #1

Out of 52 titles they've got me interested marginally in 24 but I have a feeling out of the last list I'll be dropping more than half of those.

Two Words:

GEOFF JOHNS

If you look at the Green Lanterns he has kept them all the same practically. They come out of the relaunch untouched because he that title is his baby. It helped him get to where he is. I'm not shocked that they aren't changed, that his Brightest Day version of Aquaman isn't really changed other than longer hair and I have a feeling if he wasn't buddy'd up with Lee in JL that they'd probably be less dramatically changed as well. He definitely has a way of looking at his heroes and how they'd look and he has all the pull. Literally the keys of the Kingdom of DC are all Johns and Lee's and while Lee and his teams have played with just about everyone Johns' baby the GLs are sacred.

My DC pull list looks like this so far:

GREEN LANTERN #1
GREEN LANTERN CORPS #1
GREEN LANTERN: NEW GUARDIANS #1
RED LANTERNS #1
JUSTICE LEAGUE #1
BATMAN AND ROBIN #1
BATGIRL #1
AQUAMAN #1
THE FLASH #1
SUPERMAN #1
WONDER WOMAN #1
SUPERGIRL #1

This list may shrink depending on how good the stories are.

I've only read a few DC books in my life. Superman: For All Seasons, Batman: Year One, The Dark Knight Returns, and maybe a few others. With this reboot I might actually check out a few books.

Probably the Green Lantern books and Grant Morrison on Action Comics. Not sure which Batman book though...

Where the ____ is Larfleeze?

My current DC pull list:
- Green Lantern Corps
- Emerald Warriors
- Green Lantern

My September DC pull list:
- Green Lantern Corps
- New Guardians
- Green Lantern
- Action Comics
- Suicide Squad

I will also check out these potential pull list candidates:
- Demon Knights
- Dark Justice League

you know what i love that harley is in a team and on her own, yes it was cool how she was but she was mostly a second rate background character who had so much potential for most of her time in comic pages.

her without the joker is perfect since we can now see how far she will go to get the job done now that its her own missions and not mister J's work

yes she will still be a team person and follow the missions given but this can lead to a solo carer for her and a whole lot of bad ass stories

Sorry, but that's a Harley that I just don't care about. And without the Joker it's not prefect. She's gone solo before and even teamed up with other female villains. Besides, Harley is not an "evil character". From the look of that new book, she's just like the Joker.

My pull list come September looks like this (tentative)

Batverse:
Detective
Batman
Dark Knight
Batman and Robin
Nightwing
Batgirl
Batwoman
Catwoman

DCnU:
Justice League
Justice League Dark
Wonder Woman
Aquaman
Flash
Action
Superman

Possible picking up:
Deathstroke
Blackhawks
Suicide Squad
Teen Titans
Legion Lost
Legion of Superheroes
Red Hood and the Outlaws

Honestly, my threshold for this entire stunt is almost at it's limit. I'll give these titles a shot but I'll know within 3-4 issues in whether I'll continue reading Comics or not. I just don't have the patience and energy to start all over again.

It was also mentioned in one of the articles about the lawsuit that the families are also not happy about the Big Blue Boy Scout image that DC has upheld for Superman, citing that it stops progression and it makes the character difficult to market given the thirst for more reality and gritty heroes, now remember that is from 5 years ago and it sounds like more lawyer posturing but if there is even an ounce of truth to that if they take Superman elsewhere he may not even resemble Superman at all.

Somewhere I read that Supergirl and Superboy were both created while the folks involved were employed by DC Comics but Superman, the title was before when the Siegel and Shuster team were freelancers. I can't be sure because I can't find that article yet but I think that Kara Zor-El and Conner will be fine especially as radically different as the reboot will make them anyway. Although I wonder how this will effect the Legion of Superheroes which people often forget is built on the Superboy/Superman legacy... DC and WB own the modern interpretation of the S Shield, that was proven in court:

This is what the families own:

As you can see by the reboot, that look is almost gone and if things get murky it's easily fixed. If the families take the rights away from DC, they would just have to stop using it, which means they'd have already two to three months of monthlies already in the can, so it'd be a mid 2013 change anyway and like was posted about Kal-L was the original, most of Earth-2 Superman was a homage to the original incarnation, so Kal-El would be debatable as being usable as it's a name that is different enough to warrant use and if Clark Kent is gone, I could see them easily just having him stop using that name as a homage to his alien roots. It would be interesting for them to get around Krypton though in midstream.

It's going to be a mess either way if the lawyers have their way.

:goodpost:

This clears up the confusion on the book end, but what about the movie? And sequels?

The funniest thing about all this is that if DC removes all the elements what they don't own, then the families get nothing. What are those elements worth if they are not published? Maybe next time they should work out a deal were all parties can benifit. Oh, and leave the ********* lawyers at home.

I'm still pretty torn on a lot of the new titles but this is my definite list:

Batman Beyond
BOP
WonderWoman
Savage Hawkman
Animal Man
Batgirl
Batwoman
Legion of Superheros
Legion Lost
Green Lantern
Green Lantern Corps
Demon Knights
Justice League Dark

That's actually an increase in my current DCU list, so I guess I fall into their new numbers. I may pick up a few #1's but I can only read some many comics a month before it all bleeds together.

Still waiting to here what's happening with Vertigo, other than Northlanders being cancelled :(

They still get the very heart and soul of Superman which likely won't go ignored by Marvel.

I get the TPB's, so I don't pay much attention to individual titles. I'll stick with the Batverse titles less Batwoman, Batwing, and Batman Beyond since neither of those appeal to me.

I'm going to start reading Green Lantern books, so I may read a few of those as well. Not sure what ones yet, that'll likely depend on the ones I'm about to read.

This clears up the confusion on the book end, but what about the movie? And sequels?

The films are using the original Superman basis because that was a stipulation of the families to create a film for their character either in theaters or in production at all times basically. This Snyder film is being fasttracked so WB isn't found in breach and owe a ton of fines and fees to the families for not meeting that. They are perfectly fine with it. Now if the families sever ties with DC/WB, they would probably reboot the series or within the sequel focus on whatever changes they'd do in the funny pages. WB has to pay royalties either way. The first Superman film by Snyder will be the Superman as we know it. The sequel if there is one....who knows.

So K'm guessing Power Girl and Zatanna are cancelled come September?

Zatanna's own book is cancelled and her character is moved over to Justice League: Dark.

Power Girl's book looks to be cancelled but from the looks of Supergirl might be melded with Power Girl at least that is the leading thought so if that is the case then one would think her book would continue there just retitled both in character and comic.
