If you guessed that I'm excited about the release of The Dark Knight film on July 18th, you'd be right. I have my tickets for the IMAX showing already bought and paid for, and with every trailer and sneak peak my anticipation builds. With such a couple dirth of figures at the stores though, I was very happy to see DC Direct get their 13" Deluxe figures out early. As you know, I've not been a big fan of the deluxe series, but I'm happy to say that the Joker is the best figure in the line to date, and is actually worth the bucks. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for Batman, but there's always Hot Toys.

I couldn't agree more with Michael's review. The Joker is easily the best thing that DC Direct has put out in terms of overall quality in the 13" line. I love both of the 13" comic style Batman figures but they take on a different feel. The Dark Knight Batman is just unfortunate. I wouldn't say it is horrible, but you know when you open the window flap that the figure is just too big. The armor allows for little articulation and the girth it adds to the figure just cannot be ignored.

When you know both Medicom and Hot Toys are tackling a Dark Knight figure of their own and the ever lurking specter of a new Takara version is a possibility, it really seems to be worth it to spend the extra money to get a high quality Batman. The Joker is hard to go wrong with though.

Your review almost makes me want to buy one of the DCD Jokers. Almost. Mostly due to lack of extra cash more than anything though. Plus, Les' head and painting are far superior to the factory work on this one. I can't wait to make that an alternate head for Hot Toy's Joker :D

Nice review. I think I'll still hold out for the HT (or even the Medicom) Joker. Sure the DCD headsculpt is arguably more accurate than the HT, but considering that it is scanned (which I think you should have mentioned in your review), it SHOULD be accurate. I could do without the boring expression on his face though.

The Medicom Joker has the expression and likeness down pat. The HT has the best clothes.

Which is all the more the shame that Medicom are underscaled. That loses the possiblity of mix and matching.

Great review Michael. :clap

You almost convinced me to buy that Joker but I'm still going to wait for the HT or Medicom versions.

If the DCD figures weren't so out of scale with other 1:6 figures, I'd be picking this up just for the parts. The problem is that you really won't be able to display the DCD Joker with the HT Batman.

Nice review-- I think I'll try and pick up a Joker (I've already got the HT version pre-ordered) thanks in no small part to your review-- here's hoping my Canadian supplier will be "supplying" him.:D

I absolutely LOVE the above pic...

The Batman looks just as horrible as the original. The Joker looks decent.

Cool review Mike!
I acually like the Joker fig, just cobbled my own out of it. But I do recommend him to collectors. LOVE the extra mask and all. Cool second fig potential there.

Just got these in. I like the Joker a lot. I do think it's the teen body with just longer legs though - the proportions don't quite work. I removed the 2nd jacket on the Joker and the purple duster sits much better.

Batman - I didn't even take out of the box. I think Michael was generous in his review - the uberdetailed suit makes the huge body size and tiny head even more incongruous. They just need to stop with the movie based figures with this body.

Great review, even though it came out after I already bought both figures for only $100 for both. I still like my Batman though.
:chew

Okay guys, please help me decide. I got these 2 in my pile-o-loot @BBTS. Looks like I'm keeping the Joker but still debating on the Batman. With all the Dark Knight goodies from Hot Toys on preorder...should i just cancel the Batman and wait for the Hot Toys?

If you've got a sick obsession with all things Batman, yes. I'm keeping all of them, so that goes to show just what a sick little puppy I am!

The Joker is a very nice figure, particularly for the DCD 13" line. I suspect that the HT one will be much better, making the need for both sort of moot, but you can never have too many Jokers.
