The second weapon XS50 Grinder reminded me of the District 9 Assault Rifle weapon.

I'm a character artist working on the game connected to this show. Check it out guys! Game launches on April 2nd on PC, Xbox, and PS3 and the show airs April 15th!

I am always very skeptical when it comes to SciFy Series.. they all look kind of "cheap" .. but maybe they did a good job on this one.. will give it a try

been seeing the previews while watching "faceoff".........some of it looks really good and other parts look like myc says......cheap.
but will give it a shot anyway. a strong story line & good/fair acting can overcome set design for me.

The pilot is up on Amazon.com for free right now. Just got done watching it. I have to say - I'm very impressed! It was a great opening. The hour and a half (with no commercials) sort of whizzed by. I was pretty blown away by the special effects, especially for television. It's hard to imagine them keeping this up every episode, but it was a good introduction. They certainly put a lot up there on the screen. But I also thought the characters were immediately likable/interesting and involving. They relied on some fairly standard tropes to get things going, but they are already deepening it by the very end of the episode. You only get to know them a little before the episode ends, but I am eager to see what comes next. Some solid scheming going on, and overall it feels like a very vibrant, alive and real place I'll look forward to visiting each Monday.

I was expecting very little going by the ads I saw, but the pilot was immensely entertaining. Very predictable at times, but in a good way. Dare I say, it gave me a bit of that old Farscape feeling.

I'll try it too since there's nothing else I watch on Monday nights at that time. Hopefully I won't get bored with it like Revolution.

Tonight's the night! Whooooo. I hope it does well.

Found this quote that makes me think as good as the first episode was, it'll only get better. I figured they were starting with more archetypal characters to get the show running and then expanding from there. But it's good to actually hear it. :)

"This is really a cannonball jump into craziness," Murphy says. "It's also like we made a deliberate choice to not explain too much, not to do a history lesson about how the world came to be, but we mention it. Because you know what? This is a show that you're going to enjoy, you don't need that much explanation because you're going to want to learn about it as it goes along. Its not like we don't know the answers."
To make sure the series isn't too foreign for viewers, Murphy based the characters on well-known archetypes. "It's something to kind of wrap your arms around. You may not understand ... what the big funny Chewbacca-looking thing is ... but you understand, oh, that's Vito Coroleone. That's Bill from Gangs of New York. You have recognizable archetypes and then over the course of the 13 hours we then start deconstructing those archetypes and complicating them," he says.

The deal is that the show is supposed to reference events that happen in the game--like things that players do. I'm guessing when they shot the show they have a few scenes that they can shoot on greenscreen the week the episode airs so they can add that in.

Anyways, pretty good pilot, I'll definitely keep watching this.
