Realy thrilled with the viewing numbers. Hope they can keep it up! Was stoked to see some characters I made show up in the video game ads they ran during commercial breaks. Oh and if u watched, I got to make the in game version of Irisa!

Watched the pilot and really liked it, overall. Cgi was rough at times, but also pretty decent others - did enjoy the 'big screen' feel of the scope of the town itself.

My one beef: they need way better looking wigs for the red & white haired aliens......

I thought the Irathiens were pretty good wig-wise. But the Casithans need help. I think white hair is just hard to do. Look at Storm in the X-men movies, and they had a bigger budget.

I think I'm the only one who wasn't blown away...I may give it another shot but so far, I don't dig it. Maybe I'm missing something.

Don't think so, I was kinda playing catch up with the plot - all these characters thrown at you. My favorites are the dad main guy and his adopted alien dtr myself - they held my interest more than anything

I very much enjoyed the second episode, "Down In The Ground Where The Dead Men Go." The pace might have felt a bit slow after the breathless introduction of everything in the pilot, but I thought that helped. With the characters introduced, we were able to focus on just a few this time.

I'm actually not sure which plot line was the A and with was the B plot line had about equal screen time. But let's call the Casti ritual plot line A. For that one, I liked some of the questions is posed about different groups trying to live together. Where is the line between preserving traditions and respecting other cultures and holding the whole group to certain standards and laws? Now, the show sort of gave themselves an easy out here. It's too bad that they didn't let the Casti ritual have more merit and thus make the moral quandary more gray. By making the ritual a torture, I feel like we're a bit too easily put on Irisa, Nolan, Amanda and Tommy's side. It doesn't help that Datak is sort of the villain here. I did think they made a pretty good show of explaining the Casti was of looking at things, though, even if the audience sympathies are pretty clear.

As for the B-plot of chasing Ben into Old St. Louis, it provided some nice visuals, to be sure. But even more I liked the chance for Nolan to bond with Rafe McCawley. I didn't think much of Rafe or most of the McCawley's, to be honest, but I thought they acquitted themselves well here, especially Rafe. I really came to like him more, and be more impressed with the performance overall. I did think it was a bit dumb of Nolan not to realize what Ben would do (how does an Indogene have a name like Ben, btw... wonder what his story is...) after McCawley decided not to kill him. But I was intrigued about the hints of what Rafe did to his wife, and the fact that his beloved son really wasn't so pristine clean... and wanted to get away from him.

It's hard to deny that both story lines didn't have quite the climax I might have hoped for. But I was still entertained and enjoyed getting to know these characters more. I am very intrigued by what happened to Irisa to make her hate chains and get her those scars. Maybe that's why she was glad Nolan killed her parents?
One other note - definite improvements on the production standpoint. Alac's (and pretty much all the Castithan hair) looked much better, for one. And, weirdly, the town felt much more "real" to me this time. It seemed a bit more lived in than in the pilot.

Yea, it was slower but a necessary filler episode I think. Really gave some insight into backstory and general character building. It seems like the next one should have much more action which I hope balances out with the 2nd episode. Enjoying it for sure!

Oh, I like character building episodes, don't get me wrong. I don't think of them as fillers. I think they are nice breathers. I don't necessarily want all action all the time.

I enjoyed the second episode.. a bit disappointed that it was only 43 minutes long.. wanted more!

I feel ya. Finished the pilot this morning and have ep 2 on the dvr to be watched. I didn't find the pilot spectacular.

•None of the aliens were given a backstory.
•None of the characters are likable so far except the Mayor and Nolan.
•The make up on the Albino snake people is horrid.
•Nolan's plot arc in the pilot is strangely like that of the lead in Terra Nova.
• The only alien race I could name if you asked is the Bio-Man.

I could go on.

But i'm willing to give it more time, and watch a few more.

I'm biased but I am enjoying the show so far. There was much more backstory in episode 2. Whether characters are likable is a matter of opinion so not much anyone can do about that for ya...though I think ep 2 did a lot to make Irisa my favorite character so far. I don't think the makeup on the castithans is that bad but deciding to just make them white might have not been the greatest decision. I already like this a lot more than Terra Nova. The alien names are a bit unique and the only reason I know them is cuz I worked on the game...the white aliens are castithans, the red aliens are Irathients, ape looking aliens are sensoths, ther tiny aliens (Rafe's housekeeper) are called Liberata, and then the doctor and Ben are Indogene.

I thought the pilot was pretty good. It's nice to see some actual sci-fi on tv.

My favorite part was when Han Solo had a change of heart and came back to help the rebel alliance.

Definitely a Nolan/Irisa fan here. Also really like Doc Yewll, Tommy (the deputy) and Bertie (Rafe's housekeeper) as far as more minor characters. I'm coming around to Amanda.

I actually think they smoothed out a lot of the issues with the Castithan make-up in the second episode. As I mentioned, their hair already looked better. I didn't have much of an issue with their white make-up though. Seemed pretty well done to me.

The complaint about not knowing a ton about people or the story or races is funny. Some people thought we learned too much. Some people thought we didn't learn enough. I can't really say because I was familiar with the game and some of the other supplemental materials, so I'm pretty well informed versus the more casual viewer. But I keep thinking of the first episode of Game of Thrones and how utterly lost I was with that (and it turned out just fine after a couple episodes) and I definitely think Defiance gave out more info than they did! :D

I liked the pilot even if everythign was fairly predictable. Hope to see the show get a little bit of edge to it, because the overall idea is rwally cool.

It was ok. Rough CG and reminded me too much like a future Game of Thrones rip off.

I like the concept, but too many better shows to dvr and catch up on, then this.

This isn't the Firefly that I was hoping for.
