Deposits on Exclusive Pre-Orders: Sideshow's New Policy?

So if I pre-order something with a deposit required and there's a change from prototype to production before shipping that I don't like (ala light feature added to Chernabog PF), can I cancel and get my deposit refunded or do I have to wait until the item ships then return it?

We thought that added feature would increase the coolness of the item and its display. But if it annoys you, then yes you can return it and would would give you your NRD back, if the item had one.

Well, it didn't annoy me. I simply felt it was unnecessary and just added an additional potential issue of breakage to the piece. But thanks for your response!

Thanks for all the feedback Chicky. Having the backstage pass along with 360 view on Tues would really help. It also doesn't make sense that the specs aren't released on preview day either. All these things would help us collectors decide whether to purchase or not on Thurs.

I think it will slow the quick trigger pulling customers. Myself included. It's good for me actually, it really forces me to buy only what I like, which these days haven't been a lot to begin with. I don't fault sideshow for doing this, but I WILL fault them if they came out with something different from the prototype and I cancel because of some production issue. It definitely is an added annoyance to purchasing. I'm skipping the beast exclusive, don't care for art prints and the sculpt is okay. I don't like the large shiny gaunlets, it overwhelms the statue.

Backstage Passes need to be there day one, for everything. I'm not always persuaded by pics alone, but the videos help me appreciate the piece more, and may even be the tipping point towards a sale.

Agreed with 360 views being available right away.

Considering how many people will order it and then when its time to ship go "What the ____? Its goddamn Brendan what was I thinking...." and cancel I could see the need for a low ES and NRD on that piece. Although I'm sure since the likeness is a bit off probably due to lighting and paint with the TLC of an in-house artist that the final production will still bear cancelations.

I seriously can't see how anyone can honestly claim they don't believe Sideshow has QC issues. It's affected pretty much every license, line and product type they've had at some point. And it's never really gotten better.

Most folks being open and honest won't. They do have some but its not horrible like maybe some want to make it out to be either.

To be fair though IJ, you've been in the collecting game a lot longer than most of the guys on here, actually from all the original Marvel collectors, I really can only think of one that actually post frequently over there... The rest are newer collectors to which I don't think they have experienced the full effect of quality problems with SSC QC.

Yeah, if you've been here you've seen the good, the bad, and the ugly. That goes for products and members a like.

I am trying to get to everyone's relevant concerns in the thread! Our production guys are constantly working on quality issues, sourcing new artists and manufacturing procedures. Have we hit everything 100%? Nope. Do we try like hell? Yes. To assume QC is being put aside until other procedures are put in place, is wildly inaccurate. To assume QC issues are the number one reason for cancellations? Also inaccurate.


Can you return your item if it is majorly different from the prototype and get a full refund? Yes. Can you return your item if you decide you don't like it, ie the pose of Skywalker or the face sculpt of Rambo even though they haven't change from the prototypes? Yes, but in that case you pay return shipping.
Can you return your item for a refund if it didn't have the right amount of dirt deco in the same spots as the prototype? Yes, but this would be considered an aspect of the hand detailing and you would need to pay for return shipping. You can see this list could get pretty long which is why we cant detail it out in our Return Policy, however the majority of collectors who have taken advantage of the policy have been pleased with it.

Well, I for one like them and don't feel bad for it either. They're not Oscar award winning movies but I do find them thoroughly enjoyable to watch.

I still think the policy is fine... I know I'll be more careful about placing pre-orders, but that's a good thing as it prevents an artificial demand inflation.

How so? Many of the items considered grails have edition sizes larger than what's out now. Cap ex, Green Hulk, Doom ex and regular sell for so much now because they were done well. A grail isn't by numbers, it's making a product that nearly everyone wants. just look at white Electra com, there's only 150 made yet not that many people even care about it.
