Deposits on Exclusive Pre-Orders: Sideshow's New Policy?

I don't like the policy for one reason - they only give you a general release time of the statue. Money is tight for everyone and I think that if you are going to charge a deposit, then you should state the date you will be charged for the entire piece.

The deposit works for Flex pay since they put the dates down when you will be charged.

I always preorder pieces I like and because there are so many and alot of the time multiply statues will get charged around the same time, (for example when Wolverine and Sabertooth came out) you have to choose which ones to let go of and which to keep. I would love to spend all my money on the sideshow pieces, but stupid Bills get in the way.

Is the irony of sounding out the abbreviation for "Non-Refundable Deposit" lost on anyone? :huh:lol

:lol Thanks for that. Now I can't stop sounding out the abbreviation every time I read a thread.

In reality I don't see this policy affecting me all that much. I'm not a high-volume buyer and it takes a lot to get me excited about an exclusive. I feel that most exclusives aren't that great anyways to justify the extra costs just to have a more limited ES. I'm sure that I'll come across an item that I want with the required deposit (Stormtrooper PF immediately comes to mind), but whether I order right away or take the chance and wait, I guess I'll just cross that bridge when I get to it.

I do feel for the collectors, though, who would be most affected by the policy. The decision really isn't as simple as "don't order it."

for myself this really doesn't effect me since back when i was paying full bore shipping and brokerage charges of around $75 per piece, depending on the size and wieght of the box. i'm now only paying $35 flat rate, so basically if i HAVE to cancel something and lose my deposit, i'm still better off then i was when the shipping costs were higher a year ago.

^ holy crap thats expensive. I just started ordering from Sideshow, its roughly $25 for shipping, Fed EX waves the $10 fee because all my orders have a Fed Ex account, and 5% GST.

Now that the American / Canadian dollar is almost at parity its great. Although sideshow keeps increasing their prices on a lot of pieces (more specifically the dioramas and comiquettes).

The worst time to collect probably would've been late 2008 when the exchange rate was almost 20% more (for Canadians).

yeah it was expensive to be ordering from ssc, but now it's not bad at all. glad to hear you got the fedex account, sure am glad i found out about that. not that much of a savings, but over time it sure'll add up.

This part of the new policy should give everyone pause in particular:

Basically, what they're saying there is that it will be their determination whether or not a final product is a "defect" or not and instead of a full refund in some cases you would get "exchange options". So if I pre-ordered something like a Rambo PF in hopes that it would turn out decent in production and then received that mongoloid statue (because I didn't want to eat the 10% NRD by cancelling) there's a real possibility that I couldn't get a complete refund but instead "exchange options"?? EFF. THAT.

It shouldn't give anyone pause...you get a 100% refund for "damaged" items.:nana:

Buyer's remorse + small hammer....oops.
