Many of you have read my various comments on not being able to find a job. Well, I may have found something to help that! The scrap metal market is looking pretty good right now. So, I've decided to start stripping old TV's, old PC's, random plumbing fittings, etc. for scrap. Also, I can ride up to housing projects where homes are being built and pick up the metal in which they are just throwing out. Copper plumbing is the best.

You see folks, THIS is what this hobby can do to you. Make you practically steal pipes and wires for scrap, just in order to fund that new Premium Format. WOW

Yup. Be sure to record you picking up the copper pipe from those construction sites. Also be sure to record the beatdown you get from the workers lol.

yup, my bro in law is an electrician and does the same thing with his scrap.
trust me, those construction guys knw what the scrap is worth. Big risk if you plan to just stroll up and take theirs....

i sometimes sell collectibles i own to buy other collectibles. but if you don't want to do that, there are jobs everywhere if you look. don't you have bills? i'd like to know how i can not have to pay bills because i could then get every collectible i wanted. :lol

im a construction dude :D you get more for copper wire then copper pipe but its by the LBS or KG and pipe weighs more, and the construction workers sell there own scrap so it will count as stealing from them and they will treat it that way if they catch you, i dont know about over where you live but you can only sell an amount of KG a day without a ABN Number,

i nic a hand full of copper wire every few days and just collect it and sell it when i get enough, you get more if you strip the wires of the plastic to

stainless steal and aluminum is worth $ to

My goodness this sounds crazy. Where does one even trade in or sell these metals?

Can it be that profitable? I mean, wouldn't it be worth your time and investment to get even a Mcjob? They are always hiring...

your better off getting a job, like i said you cant make big money unless you have an ABN number and if you have on of them then your a builder and dont need the cash :lol

its a good way to make $50 a week extra but thats about it, its like $6.50 KG for stripped Copper wire, and thats the highest price metal scrap metal wreckers buy

I don't know where you are from, but here in Florida this is called stealing and you can be arrested.

:nono That's not what's he's saying at all small Fry.

Although you'll be hard pressed to find any scrap copper just being thrown out these days so be careful.

I remember collecting aluminum cans by the road side when I was a boy. I'd get enough to pay for candy most of the time.:lol

It's called a hyperbole and I don't think he realizes that most builders don't throw those types of things out anymore.
There are better ways of advising people without calling them idiots.

Dang newbies.

Yeah Man, Slow Your Role!!! You just joined to post stupid comments like that, are you nuts!!!:banghead

so if I have 1000 posts I can call him an idiot? What difference does it make?

also, further down the page he's talking about buying a HDTV from the money from his job, now he's not got a job anymore and plans on selling scrap metal.
Sounds like he telling tales one way or the other.

Maybe he was being sarcastic? Sometimes people do try to make fun of their situations....for some reason, and maybe it's just me, I read his post as tongue in cheek.....:dunno

I have family that live in Panama.....an uncle that lives in a small village....at least once a month their phones are down because people steal the wires to sell them. It's frustrating for them....but the people that are stealing the wires are literally dirt poor and starving so you really feel sad for them.

please go on in your enterprise...stealing is a good thing...If I could steal some collectibles from some of the members here, I would do it...I'd start with Darklord Dave, than L.cummins.

At least I know my massive SW collection is save from you.:D

Oh, thanks for the explanation Spyda. I am way out of the loop on this one. :lol

I figured it couldn't be all that profitable though. best off getting a real job... any job really as long as you are not in harms way. :)

Jesus Christ people! I don't just stroll up and take it. I'll ask whoever's in charge first. Plus, alot of companys don't have the time nor patience to remove old appliances themselves. Therefore, I just ask if I could help them remove it for free, take it home, and strip it! And for all of those who say, "you'd be better off just getting a job", I've applied for over 20 locations and it seems as though nobody wants to hire a 16 year old!
