Like I said only time will tell if this is true. BTW this wasn't a sales person off the floor. Take it for what it is. I was just trying to pass on some info

Never listen wholeheartedly to a salesman.

the Detolf is no doubt one of IKEA's top selling items. Mainly from us collectors LOL and the occasion house wife wanting to put pretty vases or whatever in them.

So I checked stock on Ikea.com for the Ikea in NJ this past Sunday. Web site said there were 36 pieces available. I jump in my car , take my 5 year old son with me, get to Ikea 45 minutes later, as it just opened and there were none in stock. I asked an employee to help me and she proceeded to tell me rather rudely that I must have checked the wrong store (because I never used the internet before, you know?) I told her to check online , which she reluctantly did, and saw that it said they were in stock. She then proceeded to tell me that they must have just sold out, all 36 , the store had been open all of 5 minutes. I then found an employee who was willing to help and she told me that the website is not accurate and they haven't had them in stock for months, she thinks in March or April they'll be back. I'm about ready to give up on these shelves!

Lesson to be learned? Call before you go!

Nuh uh, the lesson is that you stop trying to buy all the Detolfs at MY Ikea! It's mine! Get out! :cuss :lol

Drat! Wanted to pick up two detolfs tomorrow so I checked stock. Nothing available (furthermore, the beech variant is unavailable nationwide).

Which Ikea in NJ do you go to? If it's Elizabeth, I can tell you for a fact that they had them in stock on Saturday, 2/22. I had been checking almost everyday for about a month to see when they were going to have them. And on Saturday, I checked online in the morning and they just happened to have 38. I called and Ikea to confirm that they had them and they said yes. I asked if someone from the actual store could confirm inventory so I didn't waste my time but they said no. I drove to the store and they had 2 pallets worth of them ... 2 boxes for 1 so maybe 25 or so left. I bought 1. By that Monday, I checked stock again and saw they were sold out. Kind of crazy!

Damn! I missed that! I was there the weekend before and it was sold out...

Yup, the Elizabeth store, I saw that they said they had 36 , I went on Sunday , just as store opened. Must have just missed them. I only need one! lol!, The Paramus one is actually closer to me but I've never seen them there. It's a matter of luck I guess?

Oh boy, checked Ikea site and Detolf is unaivalable in every store except one (of course the one in the utmost corner of the country as far away from me as possible). Only 5 left . Currently thinking about ordering two online and taking the delivery fee.

I also got mine at the Elizabeth NJ store, all 9 of them.. Got lucky. The time before that I got them in PA, had to drive 1.5 hours though.
With such demand, you'd think they will keep them coming...

You would think right? Whereabouts in Jersey are you? Im near the meadowlands.

I guess I was the smartass that got them all...cuz the 8 I ordered came in yesterday!:hi5: Now I get the task of putting these beasts together!

Here's a tip. If you're not going to use the circular hole for a light fixture, use that panel for the bottom of the unit. It's easier to cover it up with a custom printed floor or figure stand than it is at the top and you won't have an unsightly plastic plug to look at.

Likewise for the back glass panel - if you can't remove the "Safety Glass" sticker, mount it with the sticker at the bottom.

My Ikea doesn't carry Detolf's anymore. I'm pretty disappointed but at the same time I hated the glass on it. Never was cleaned completely. Switching to Besta's for all my collectibles.

You've clearly never used "Invisible Glass" from Stoner (yeah, that's the name of the company, no joke). Available at Costco in six packs, awesome stuff. I split the last pack with a friend.

Sounds like good stuff. Still will be getting new shelving for my collectibles since my Ikea doesn't carry the series anymore. The Detolf will be put down in the basement with the Lego's.
